DANI'S P.O.V-

I tugged my fingers in the pockets of the yellow jacket that was way, way too small on me. But considering it was the only thing keeping the warmth in, protecting me from the low temperatures North Carolina was receiving, I was thankful to have it on. I inhaled sharply and watched the coldness take over my breath as I exhaled. For a moment I stood in front of my mothers house and wondered just how things could have gotten this bad.
I felt my phone vibrating in the pocket of my skin tight jeans, but I didn't pay much attention to it. I was too focused on getting myself over to the other side of the street where the little white house was displayed. I figured it was perfect timing to get there since all the lights were shut off. I'd be able to get in and get out without my mom waking up.

Hopefully.

I started walking slowly, feeling myself closing in the space that was filled before.
My hair that had originally been in a tight bun was now starting to fall out of place, leaving baby hairs sticking onto the back of my neck. I took another long breath and climbed over the wooden fence that led to our back yard. I was hesitant at first, being careful not to place my fingers on the nails sticking out. I stepped onto the other side that was now filled with dirt; all over the concrete walls, on the little bench I remember helping to construct when I was younger, and even on the patio. It had been a long time since I was here. Since I was home. As I walked past the windows leading to the back door I remembered all the laughs and memories that were created here. I thought back to the times where the grass was green, and butterflies roamed around this house. Back to when I was happy.
I stood on my tippy toes and threw my hand above my head trying to reach the key that I knew was hidden above the door. I carefully placed the key in the lock and placed my left hand on the knob, feeling once again the coldness take over. Its not that I don't enjoy the cold weather, I actually do. I love the feeling of wanting warmth, but at the moment it was bothering me. I heard the click of the door and I pulled the door outwards allowing my body to enter the warmness of the little house. I quickly shut the door behind me and began to make my way around the house before I was blinded by the light that soon took over the room.

"I've been waiting for you" I turned around facing my mothers blonde hair and blue eyes that were underlined by dark bags. She seemed comfortable on the brown leather couch and her pink PJs. I looked around the room and noticed the walls now had dents in them. Coats of paint attempted to hide them, but only served to make them more visible.

"You shouldn't have" the words fell out of my mouth before I could detain them.

"You're my daughter, I wanted to. I didn't realize your dad would be dropping you off this late" she said raising an eyebrow.

"I got here a couple hours ago. Don't worry I was on my way out anyways I just needed the money that was in my bag" I began to turn around as I talked trying my best not to break eye contact with her.

"I was hoping you would st-"

"No" I interrupted watching the little light of hope in her eyes vanish instantly, making me feel guilty.

"I can't stay here you know that" I sighed looking away before walking down the hall. I heard her sniffling and couldn't help but picture the tears falling down her rosy cheeks. But I didn't turn around to confirm it, I kept walking forward until I reached the crooked door and entered cautiously, making sure to close the door correctly. I glanced around the room noticing it was exactly the same as it had been left, but it didn't feel the way it had the last time I was here. I walked over to the bed that I didn't want to admit was mine. It didn't feel that way anymore. I searched around the room looking for my suitcase until I found it right by the window near a poster of one direction that I probably left up when I was younger. I felt a small smirk appear on my lips as I remembered the big crush I use to have on Niall. I took out my phone and watched it as it flickered on, indicating I had received a message. I unlocked it and stared at the message Tony had sent me not even a minute ago.
