Melvin walked across the pale blue, cold tiles in his kitchen, his breath weazing over the pitter-patter of the rain. He walked across to his fridge, opened it and felt the cool air on his face and coughed it right back out. He looked around the fridge, took out a drink of water, and moved on to his cupboard. He opened that and looked around it, seeing his breakfast cereals on the bottom shelf and lots of cooking ingredients, chocolate, rice, canned foods, honey and a random assortment of food on the second. He looked up to his medicine shelf and got down his medication and health kit. He shuffled through the contents to find his ventolin. He coughed as he shook it and placed it in his mouth, because he couldn't be bothered to get his inhaler, and took a deep breath. Almost instantly he put his water bottle in his mouth and gulped a mouthful down.
"Another successful routine complete" Melvin sighed. The rain outside was growing stronger and so was the wind, as Melvin could see from the window on the left side of the white walled and pale blue tiled messy kitchen that reeked of beer, chips and medicine.
Melvin walked back to his room now that he could breathe a bit better and could properly get ready for tonight, since tonight was a special occasion. It was his Dad's birthday today and he was trapped in going to a restaurant to "celebrate". At least dad allowed him to bring some friends along, and their families. Dad also invited some of his work friends along. Melvin had got his dad a little gift to be polite. He got him a nice set of screwdrivers. He didn't know why his dad would need them, since he fixed everything. Maybe he would get to use them? Melvin was deep in thought, picking out the only nice clothes he has, a long-sleeved, grey, shirt that had a grossly large logo on the front, black pants with a silver belt buckle and a cool leather jacket.
Suddenly, his device beeped. A message! He opened his W.I.D, the ultimate phone and gaming device, and found that the message was from one of the friends that was coming to his dad's party.
"Hey Melvin! how are you? are you ready for the party? Im excited to see you again in the holidays! see you soon!!! -Roxanne" The message read. You tapped the reply button to message her back.
"Hello Roxanne. I'm" You hesitated for a moment, not knowing what to put. "I'm okay. At the moment I am getting ready for it. I am also very excited to see other people again." You pressed send and hoped it reached her. You knew it would reach her but you hoped she read it before the party. She had an annoying habit of going on for a bit then not checking it for a while.
You walked out of your room, putting your W.I.D in your pocket. You walked all the way over to the bathroom, about 5 meters away. The big bathroom mirror made a reflection that stared back at you. You saw your big, black, round glasses, your slightly messy hair, your skin with all it's freckles and pimples, your grey eyes, and your boringly normal self. You sighed and picked up your hairbrush and started to brush your hair and get ready for tonight.
After you were done you went out of the bathroom and turned off the lights and walked to the lounge room, taking out your WID. You put it on the charger and opened it. "No new messages."
Just as thought. You opened one of the pointless games and started to play it; to waste time until your dad arrived home to take you to his party
