I wake up to find myself in a sweat. The heat this month has been unbelievably hot.

I yawn as I get up off the mattress I share with my 14 year old sister, Prim.

She doesn’t stir as I get up. I walk over to the small homemade dresser made out of wood from the forest beyond the fence, My father made it when my mom and him moved into this house.

I have a considerably larger amount of clothes this year, I did a deal with the man who owns the clothes shop in town, If I gave him all of the geese and the occasional duck I killed this year for a trade, He would supply me with clothes for my entire family for a year. I have to admit, It was one of the best trades I have ever done because the wife of the man that owned the shop made the best jam and scones in all of District 12, We also got a supply of them.

I throw on a dark green tank top, dark green shorts and a pair of white pumps.

It’s not my usual hunting attire, But it’s too warm to wear my usual clothes.

I brush my hair with the fine toothed comb and braid it as usual.

I grab my hunting bag, Which also doubles as my school bag.

As I am about to walk out of the door, My mother appears in the kitchen.

“Morning”, She greets.

The year of Prim’s first reaping, My mom started getting better. She even goes to the hob occasionally, she’s getting a lot better, I am getting closer to my mom now, I still find it hard to forgive her though, Time will only tell us.

“Mornin’ , I’m going hunting, I’ll be back in time for school”, I tell her.

My mom then hands me a few hazelnuts to eat and I happily chow them down as I leave.

I walk over to the gap in the fence and listen for the hum and shimmy through the hole.

I walk over to where I leave my bow and arrows in the hollowed out log.

I walk for about 5 minutes and I see a groosling grazing in the grass.

It doesn’t notice me , I aim the arrow at it’s eye for a clean kill and I release the arrow.

I walk 10 minutes further into the woods and check the snare trail and to my surprise I see a wild turkey in one of the nets, I quickly grab it and sling it over my shoulder.

I check the fishing  nets and I find 8 fish in the net.

I put the fish in my bag and move along.

I then walk to the apple tree. I take about 15 apples and put them in my bag.

I think I’ve done enough hunting.

I walk to the Hob to do my trading.

I trade 4 apples for 2 bags of rice.

I trade 1 fish for 3 tins of beans.

I walk over to greasy sae and give her 1 apple in exchange for a bowl of her wild dog and lentil soup.

I finish eating and I decide to jack back home.

As I enter the door I see Prim eating a piece of bread with goats cheese.

“Morning, Little duck”, I greet.

“Morning”, She greets cheerfully.

I put my goods in the cupboard in the kitchen.

“Where’s mom?”, I ask.

“I’m here”, She says as she exits the bathroom.

“Can you gut the fish, turkey and groosling for me?”, I ask.
