Mathieu, Anna and Troy all kept absolutely still being enveloped in an uneasy silence. Afraid that any slight movement may alarm the other. Anna only felt pure horror as she gawked at Troy and Mathieu's intense glare off. She swore she could almost see the electricity sparking in the air and fire just about ready to shoot off their eyes. She felt a pang of guilt as her gaze once again fell on Mathieu's bloodied nose and lips.
She felt miserable being the reason of Mathieu's now probably broken nose and Troy's huge violent outburst. The worst part is that she couldn't even tell him the truth and that she had no choice but to throw Mathieu into the den of lions meaning her brothers. In order to protect Nicolas. The thought just made the pang into several hundred daggers stabbing her heart all at once.
She cursed under her breath loud enough for Mathieu to hear. Even so, he continued glaring viscously at Troy. Anna wanted nothing more than to just breakdown and confess everything from the love at first sight she felt to the first night she slept with Nicolas. But she could never do that. She would rather die ten folds than do that.
She has never lied to Troy before and this... this... thing she has become. Lying to her brother's face without an ounce of shame. Needless to say, she despised it. However, Anna loved Nicolas too much to do that, to tell the truth. He meant the world to her. He was her world, but she was not about to crush him for her selfish happiness.
The truth would lose her nothing, but it would cost Nicolas everything. Whoever said that true love was all unicorns and rainbows. Whoever said it was clearly on crack, she thought grimly. Ha! She laughed. Who thought that love could actually turn someone into a cynic!
Her deep thoughts were cut short by the clicking of someone's heels in the warren like hallway. "Oh my!" Evelyn exclaimed as she saw the injured Nicolas. She felt the urge to step back and pretend this never happens as she felt the tense air the hanged around them. She looked from Troy to Mathieu. Troy was unscathed while Mathieu was bleeding. Cuts on his once flawless face.
"Goodness!" Evelyn squealed as she pitter pattered her way to Mathieu. Not so gently grabbing his face into her fingers turning it to examine the extent of his injuries. "We better get that fixed before you get an infection!" She scolded.
"I'm fine" Mathieu muttered rather harshly at her, grabbing her hand away from his face. He didn't bother to hide his disgust for her.
Evelyn sighed and turned her attention onto Troy. He looked terrifyingly furious. "What happened?" She repeated, now directing the question to Anna. When Anna merely shrugged, looking away, guilt ridden. Troy took it upon himself to answer. "Did you know Anna was missing last night?" He asked in a monotone.
Evelyn's mouth and eyes widened in surprise. "Oh dear..." Before she could finish her sentence, she was cut off by Troy. "And did you know where she was?" he continued. Evelyn looked questioningly at her daughter, giving her a look that asked where this was going.
When Anna guiltily looked away, Evelyn hesitantly shook her head as somewhat of an answer to Troy. He smirked quite menacingly at Mathieu. Troy lifted his hand, rudely pointing at him, "This bastard right here, was with her the entire night!" He said through gritted teeth.
Evelyn was surprise, needless to say. Her daughter and Mathieu? That couldn't be, they're legally cousins. She could not even fathom the idea of them as a couple. Incest was wrong in her eyes even if it was only legal incest. Them being not related and all. Oh, if only she knew.
"I'm sure nothing happened" she said, trying to salvage the situation. By the murderous look on Troy's face, she knew she had no choice, but to try and convince him that Anna was still the sweet little angel they knew. Or what Troy still believed her to be. Even Evelyn knew her daughter wasn't as innocent as she seemed. Motherly instincts you could call it, not that she really had any. Troy glared at her making her cringe.
"They've already admitted to seeing each other" he continued. "How could nothing have happened between two horny brats alone together for one night! Not to mention Anna was drunk off her ass!" He screamed.
Troy was staring to scare Evelyn, but she knew she had to do something before Troy completely exploded. Troy was too hotheaded for his own good. "Well isn't that more of a reason for nothing to have happened?" Evelyn pressed. "Anna would've passed out if she was as drunk as you had claimed she was" She continued sounding as authoritative and firmly as she could. Being the reasonable, mature adult she was supposed to be, she had to act as the mediator.
Troy looked at her in disbelief. He gritted his teeth before, sneering at Evelyn. "Then what do you call that hickey on her neck" he accused infuriated beyond belief, his finger pointing accusingly to the very visible red mark on Anna's pale neck.
Anna gasped and immediately held her hand over the love bite. Covering it. Nicolas had always been careful not to give her marks, at least not anywhere visible. He must have slipped this morning, when they were both so drunk and delusional with another. She swore, panicking again. Dammit! How was she going to explain it?
"Don't tell me, you f*cking molested her whole she was passed out!" Troy screamed reaching another wild conclusion. If Anna was passed out and she had a hickey and seeing that bastard then he saw no other scenario could have occurred than that of Mathieu getting his way with her when she was dead unconscious. With the way she drank last night, it was entirely possible. No one touches his sister, especially if she was drunk and knocked out.
"Of course not!" Anna screamed trying her best to defend Mathieu. She could not belief how much such a small argument had escalated. She saw that Troy was ready to spill blood. At the very least Alex wasn't here to worsen the already dire situation. She was about ready to climb into a hole and hide there.
"He would never do something like that!" They started arguing unrelentingly with one another. Either one refusing to submit. Anna was trying to defend Mathieu who only came to her rescue. She however did not mention the part of the story where he only did so to cover for her and Nicolas' illicit relationship. At the same time Troy did a fantastic job demeaning Mathieu as much as possible. Calling him a pedophile and other nasty words which Anna retorted saying she was no child. This went on for some time.
On the contrary, Mathieu remained silent and as still as a rock. Observing everything with cold blue eyes and a dark expression. "She's seventeen." He said, interrupting Anna and Troy's heated argument. His voice deathly and low. Everything was starting to get in his nerves. Punching was one thing, but calling him a pedophile was another matter he will not tolerate.
That comment in spite of only trying to reason with Troy just succeeded in further enraging the already maddened six foot tall beast. "So!" Troy shouted at him with disbelief. Mathieu seemed unfazed by Troy's anger and instead remained emotionless. Staring blankly at Anna's vengeful brother. "So..." Mathieu said calmly. "Anna's seventeen. She's passed the legal age of consent" he stated as a matter of fact.
Troy clenched his fists, "I don't f*cking care if she's seventeen, twenty or f*cking fifty! How old are you anyway!"
"Twenty-one, and I don't see how that matters at the moment."
"You are too old to be f*cking Anna. Let alone date her! Hell! You're f*cking older than me!" Troy accused him. Making poor old Mathieu flinch. Troy smirked afterwards without a hint of remorse, catching Mathieu's reaction.
Anna noticed a crack in Mathieu's mask. As a deep frown found its way onto his still bleeding face. Mathieu crossed his arms and glared at Troy. More fiercely than ever before. "I hardly think it's your business what your sister and I do behind close doors." He snapped, his lips in a grim line.
Troy fumed, smoke almost coming out of his ears, his face deep red in anger. He was about to lunge at Mathieu when Anna pushed him out of the way and received Troy's tackle hitting her head with full on force on the solid marble floor. She groaned feeling a sharp pain in her head.
She could barely hear Evelyn shriek. Mathieu and Troy's concerned calls of her name. With all the ringing in her ears, she started seeing darkness creep into her vision and without another moment's notice, she blacked out like a light.
