Bitch.
That was the only thought running through my head as Jared's daughter plastered on a fake smile and greeted me. I had encountered her only once, and that was all it took for me to realize she was the real life Regina George in every aspect but looks.
Waves of brown hair cascaded past her shoulders, and her emerald green eyes studied my face. She was a little bit taller than me and slim, with a heart-shaped face. No doubt, she was beautiful, but I could see this was an act she was putting on for my mom and Jared.
"Hi, welcome to my home," she said pointing to herself, "My name is Rowan, and you're Copper right?" she added sarcastically.
"Sorry, I tend to forget irrelevant things," she laughed.
"You know me too," I replied smoothly cocking my head to the side, "I forgot Jared even had a daughter," I said smiling.
Annoyance flashed across her face and she scowled.
"Nice to meet you Regina!" I chirped.
Her jaw ticked and she narrowed her eyes, "Look you little bitch-,"
"Bitch?" a voice said from behind me.
I swiveled around to see Jared standing there confusion flooding his face as he looked between me and Rowan.
"Yes! Rowan was just telling me some things about herself," I mused glancing at Rowan, who was now in 'tomato mode'.
If looks could kill I'm pretty sure she would be equivalent to Tate Langdon right now.
The sound of heels approaching quickly knocked the smile off my face, and a hand gripped painfully into my shoulder.
"Is she bothering you?" my mother sneered, staring coldly into my eyes.
Before anyone could interrupt I ripped my shoulder from her grasp and grabbed my things to head into the house.
As I walked away I could hear my mother telling Rowan how much she had missed her and loved her, blah blah blah. She talked to Rowan more than she has talked to me for the past couple of years. I don't think I even remember the last time she told me she loved me.
A pang of sadness shot through me. It hurts to not have a mother. Realizing that I had started to give a shit, I internally scolded myself and shoved the thought out of my mind.
I examined the house more and realized it was more of a mansion than a house. It basically reeked money. I decided to explore, and found that it had a pool, tennis court, several rooms, and my personal favorite, a gym.
I have always been athletic, and when I was younger my dad let me play baseball and practice muay thai. I got pretty good at fighting. We kept this a secret from my mom because she believed it wasn't lady like to do physical things.
I didn't continue to play baseball, but I did still practice muay thai alone. And just to my luck there was a bag in the gym.
I rushed upstairs to put down my things and checked out the room that would now be mine.
It was a nice size and I had my own bathroom. There were two big windows looking out at the scenery and one big tree right by the window. The best part was my room was secluded from everyone else's.
I slang my hair up into an extremely messy bun and put on some spandex shorts and a loose t-shirt. I took off the diamond necklace my dad gave to me when I was little. I loved this necklace and rarely took it off. On the back was engraved his nickname for me which I hated, carrot.
When I made it to the gym I stretched a little, wrapped my hands, and approached the bag. Jabbing, I began to think about tomorrow, my first day of school. A private school..
I started throwing hooks as my nerves began to tighten from my nervousness. I'm 100 percent sure it probably be full of snotty rich children who had maids to wipe their asses. And I'm sure Rowan has the school wrapped around her finger.
But a plus was no uniform.
Letting my nerves go I began to go full force at the bag. Jab, hook, kick, jab, hook, kick. Sweat dripped down my face as I finished my workout, and I plopped down on the gym floor.
I stood up and stretched to soothe my aching muscles. Looking in the gym mirror, I noticed that lines of definition started to form on my tummy.
Deciding to continue this chick moment, I
turned around to assess my butt. It was definitely looking better too, even a little more plump. I smirked at my body, my work was finally paying off. When I finished, I ran back upstairs and took a shower, and I headed downstairs for dinner at about 7:00. I was about to head into the kitchen, when I caught a glimpse of Jared in a very expensive looking tailored suit, and leather loafers. Seeing the the confused look on my face, he began to speak.
"Penny, go put on something nice. We are going to my business partner's house for dinner." he said smiling.
I could never really tell if Jared actually liked me or just acted like this because he knew we would have to tolerate each other for a while. However, I still had an eerie feeling about him. I mean who would marry someone like my mom? Either way it was nice that he tried, wish I could say the same about his crazy daughter.
I ran back upstairs and put on a fitted navy blue scallop dress and some white chucks. Slapping on some lip balm, I grabbed my necklace and threw my hair in a messy bun letting some curls fall loose to frame my face.
By the time I finished my hair my arms were burning. Anyone who has thick curly hair would understand.
When I got downstairs I wasn't too shocked to see that Rowan had on a dress so short that if she bent over I would see straight up her uterus. It looked expensive, but it also looked 3 sizes too small. Knowing this was going to be a long ride I jammed my earphones in and turned on music. Once in the car I closed my eyes, letting the music drown out their voices.
About 15 minutes into the car ride I felt a rough hand shove me out of my trance.
"We're here," my mother said glaring at me annoyingly.
"Maybe if you paid attention you would have known that we have been calling your name," Rowan sneered.
I opened my mouth to say something, but I noticed my mother looking at me from the corner of my eye. I wouldn't even give her the privilege of hearing me speak. So instead I looked out the window at a much nicer view.
My eyes widened once I saw the house we were at. I thought that Jared's house was big, but this one was like 3 times bigger. It literally looked like a house from The Great Gatsby.
The house was hidden behind trees, and was on about 4 acres of land. The perimeter of it was gated, and a big 'S' decorated the ironwork. The house was an older style, but it radiated elegance.
Several flashy cars littered the driveway, and I realized this wasn't a small dinner. This was more of a dinner party.
I sighed realizing that I would have to deal and interact with actual people. Humans, who talk. A lot.
We all got out the car and walked up the manicured lawn in a line, me at the back of course. Jared knocked on the grand doors, and a maid answered with a smile.
"Welcome to the Spade household."
I scoffed realizing how awfully boring this would be. But only if I knew this would be the beginning of something quite the opposite.
