*15 years later*

Violet POV:

I waited impatiently in my seat for my daughter to be called onto the ice.  She was a natural-born ice skater, and we were currently at championships for it.  She had a solo, and me, Duncan, and Daniel were getting antsy, but I was still excited to see her skate.

Duncan's arm was around me.  He did it a lot, so it was kind of natural, I assumed.  Either way, I leaned into him.  "You know, I think she got this trait from me." I stated casually, trying to pass the time.  Duncan snorted.  "Please.  She obviously got it from me.  I mean, mostly from me.  She probably got maybe a dash of it from you." He said teasingly.

I shook my head, smiling faintly.  "Whatever you say, Hockey Head." I said sarcastically to him, leaning into him more.  He tightened his arm around me, and I looked up at him to see he was smiling as well.  "Ew." I heard from my side.  I looked over next to me, and saw my seven year old son, Daniel, sticking his tongue out at us.  "You're being mushy again." He said.  I laughed.  "I'm bored." He whined.

Just before I was about to say something, the announcer blared through the speakers.  "Please welcome to the ice, Vee McBroom skating to 'Broken Arrows.'" Me and Duncan started cheering for her, and clapping.  She skated out, and got in her beginning pose.  I watched her intently.

The music started, and Vee started to skate on the ice fluently.  She was made for the ice.  It's so natural for her, it reminds me of myself when I was her age.  She's 12 years old, and already at championships.

The end of the song was coming nearer and nearer, and I still watched her skate perfectly, and portray the song perfectly too.  As the end came, the finale came too.  She did her final move, the hardest move of the whole routine, and I watched in anticipation.

I slowly watched her transition, and horror set in.  She had panicked, I saw it.  I stood up abruptly, and she was in the middle of her jump.  Her foot was in the wrong position, I saw it.  It happened in slow motion, she landed on her foot wrong, and I heard the crack of her ankle from where I was sitting when she landed.  I barreled down the seats, not caring about the people I might have been trampling.  All I cared about was my daughter at the moment.

A cry pierced the air.  It broke my heart to hear it, and it reminded me all too well of my skating incident.  I ran up to the rink, and looked inside.  There Vee lie, crumpled on the ice, holding her ankle.  I ran out on the ice, not caring if I would slip or not.  Of course, this didn't work out well.  I slid on the ice in my shoes, but I eventually got to her.  She was near the edge of the ice, and medics were coming quickly onto the ice.

I threw myself on the ground next to her, holding her lightly, not touching her ankle.  She cried in my arms while the medics looked at her ankle.  I got up, and one of the medics picked her up and carried her off of the ice, seeing as I wouldn't be able to do it.  As I walked off, I saw Duncan and Daniel looking at her.

Duncan looked immensely worried, but Daniel looked mildly confused.  He was firing questions at Duncan non-stop, I could see his mouth moving rapidly.  He was a talker, that was for sure.  Duncan saw me get up, and looked me in the eyes.  I got off the ice, and was immediately engulfed in a hug by Duncan, his strong arms coming around me, comforting me.

I hugged him back and sniffled lightly.  "Dammit!" I exclaimed, pulling away from him, then covered my mouth.  "Shit, sorry Daniel." I apologized.  I noticed I cursed again, and cursed in my head.  I put my hand on my forehead, and looked up into Duncan's eyes.  I could see the worry deep in his eyes.

I grabbed Daniel's hand, and wrapped my arm around Duncan's torso lightly.  I walked with them over to where the medics were conversing about her condition as of now.  I tried to catch something, anything, but failed.

I walked up to Vee, she was still crying.  I brushed her hair from her face gently,  "Vee? You'll be okay, I promise you'll be fine.  I know it hurts." I cooed in her ear, holding her.  She cried into my chest, and I held her tighter.  I rubbed circles on her back soothingly.  I don't know how my mom did it, this fucking sucked.  I felt like I would cry, it physically hurt me to hear her in absolute agony.  And there was nothing I could do about it.  I felt absolutely helpless.

The medics informed us she had to be taken to the hospital, and that freaked her out even more.  "Shh, it's okay." I cooed in her ear.  I sighed, and tears gathered in my eyes.  Her sobs were absolutely heartbreaking.  I felt a light tap on my shoulder, and turned around, ready to snap, but only saw Duncan.  I sighed again, and I stepped back from Vee.  I went back over to Daniel, because Duncan was currently with Vee.

He walked up to her, and picked her up in his arms bridal style.  She gasped a little, but as she looked up and saw him, she hugged him tightly.  She was a total daddy's girl.  She buried her head in his chest, and her crying turned into sniffles.  Duncan carried her out into the ambulance, and she started squirming in his arms when she saw it.

"Please don't make me go on there." She said softly into his chest.  My heart broke for her.  She was absolutely terrified of the hospital.  Duncan looked to me, helplessness in his stance.  I gave him a stern look that said to put her on there.  He obeyed, and took her in the ambulance.  He put her gently down on the stretcher, and sat down next to her.  I still held Daniel's hand, and I watched the ambulance go away.

I took a deep breath, and pulled Daniel along with me to the car.  I buckled him into his car seat, and got in on the drivers side, starting the car.  I thought of the nearest hospital, and drove there, Daniel throwing questions to me all the way there.  I pulled in, and saw Duncan waiting by the front entrance.  I parked and unbuckled Daniel, walking over to him.

"How is she?" I asked him.  "She's fine, she's just scared." He answered.  He put his arm around me, and led me inside with Daniel.  We went to the waiting room, and I bounced my leg impatiently.

"Well." Duncan's voice broke the silence.  I stopped chewing on my lip and looked over at him.  He was eyeing me amusedly.  I rolled my eyes.  "I swear to god, Duncan-" I started, but he interrupted me.  "No, it's not your nervous habits.  I just thought of something." He stated, still looking amused.

"Well, what?" I snapped.  I wasn't in a very good mood at the moment.  He only smiled.  "Well, you were saying earlier how she inherited the skating gene from you..." He trailed off.  I raised my brow impatiently, not getting what he was saying.  "Yeah, so?" I said.

He smiled even bigger.  "Well, she just fell on the ice, exactly like you did, and she's around the age you were...." He trailed off again. I gaped at him.  Then I slapped his arm.  "That's not funny, Duncan!" I exclaimed.  He started to laugh his ass off.  I scowled and leaned back in my seat, but a smile was tugging my lips.  Leave it to Duncan to find the funniest thing to say in a situation like this.

"I can't believe I married you." I said to him jokingly.  He winked at me.  "Well, believe it, and you reproduced with me, so-" but he couldn't even finish, because Daniel was screeching.  "No! Stop talking about that!" He exclaimed in disgust.  Duncan and I laughed, and I snuggled into his side.  I held my arm out in a gesture for Daniel to crawl in beside me.

He crawled beside me, and snuggled into my side.  I took a deep breath, and looked up at Duncan.  I discovered he was already looking at me with a smile.  I leaned up, and kissed him lightly, then leaned back into him.

Now if only my daughter wasn't in here in the first place.....
