The Fittes House was even more grand than I remembered it. It was almost perfect, chandeliers, Lockwood at my side. I say almost because there were a few unfriendly faces. Yes, I'm talking about Kat Godwin, Bobby Vernon and, of course, Quill Kipps.
"Tony, you were invited, were you? I'm surprised," he said drily. "Why are you and Ms Carlyle standing so close?"
Lockwood looked fiery, but didn't say anything to Kipps. He just turned to me and said "Nice song, isn't it Luce?"
"Err yeah. I guess." Then I realised what was about to happen. And I waited expectantly for him to ask.
"Can I have this dance?" Lockwood asked, and within seconds we were on the dance floor. It was full of couples, pressed against each other and staring into each other's eyes. Lockwood and I were part of that.
I noticed George moving slowly on the floor with a girl. PPPPFFFFFFVVVVVVWHAT?! I tried to see who it was. Not Holly, I could see that right away. He noticed me staring and steered her towards us.
"Hey you two. May I introduce you to Katie Gallagher."
The first thing you noticed was her bouncy auburn hair that came down just past her shoulders. Then you realised that she was so curvaceous she could be a super model. I looked to her face, and saw that her hazel eyes were analysing me in exactly the same way.
"Hi Katie," said Lockwood, polite as ever. "This is my girlfriend, Lucy Carlyle."
I looked at him and smiled. Then swiftly turned my attention back to Katie. "I like your dress. That blue really works with your hair." Now you may have noticed that I don't have many female friends. There's Holly and she took plenty of getting used to. You may have also noticed how friendly I was being towards this particular girl. This was because there was something about Katie that told me she wanted to be my friend. And I was glad we all wanted to be her's.
