"Please don't make me go there! I hate campin' and I hate Grandpa and Grandma!" I wailed. I knew it wasn't very nice, but my mom had just pawned me off on my Grandparents, that I barely know, for the whole summer. And not to be rude or anything, but they stink like smoke and are very rude. I already had summer plans, which included riding my horse with my friends and swimming in the creek.
"Ella, don't be so rude, and you have to go because I'm goin' to Moose Jaw for the summer" replied my momma, kind of rudely.
"Wait! Why are you goin' to Moose Jaw? Especially for the whole summer!" I asked. This day was getting worse and worse. First I learned my dad was leaving us, then, that I had to go live with my Grandparents, and third, my momma was going to Moose Jaw without me. For the whole summer!
"I'm going to a counsellor to help me with your dad leavin'." She seemed like she was holding something back, but I didn't question her. "Oh, and go pack your bags 'cause you leave early tomorrow," she added.
"What?! That's not fair at all! I hate you!" I turned around and stormed into my bedroom and slammed the door shut. I knew it was a typical teenage  move, but I couldn't believe she just told me I had to ruin my summer. I don't care how calm of a person I usually am, this was ridiculous! Seen is how I couldn't do anything else, I started packing my bag.

The next morning, momma and I didn't converse much, we just ate breakfast and packed the car, then took off. My momma said we were leaving early because my grandparents lived four hours away, in Carma, but I think she just wanted to have me gone as soon as possible.
Before we'd left, I'd snuck some of my horse Tornado's tack in the car so I could clean it there. I never miss out on a chance to have a sparkling bridle. My momma says I'm OCD when it comes to cleaning stuff, but my motto is clean things, clean mind.
The ride was pretty boring, and momma never said a word. We were just about there when she turned into the wrong road!
"Momma, we were supposed to turn right, not left!" I shouted. You'd think she'd know the way to her own parents home.
"We're not goin' to Carma, we're goin' to the campground that grandpa and grandma camp at," my momma replied solemnly.
"Ahh! I forgot  I was campin'. Great. Just great." I groan. I actually really like camping, just not with my grandparents.
"Seriously?! I just can't please you, can I?!" she yelled. My momma never yelled, so to say I was surprised would be an understatement. I felt kinda bad for making her so angry.
"I'm sorry," I whispered so quietly I wasn't even sure if she heard me. We just pulled up next to my grandparents camper, so I got out and grabbed my stuff from the back of the car. They came outside and embraced me and momma in a big hug. I guess they weren't as mean as I remember.
"Hi mom and dad. I'm sorry I can't stay long. I only got a few minutes." said my momma. She wasn't very close to her parents.
"What? Why do you have to leave so soon?" asked my grandma. The grandparents I remembered would have said something like "You should take the brat with you" or something rude like that. Actually, the last time I'd seen them was when I was about six years old, and that was ten years ago. I think maybe the reason they smelt like smoke was because we'd had a bonfire, and I was six, so i was probably just always getting in trouble, because when  I was six I was a little trouble maker.
"Because Moose Jaw is the opposite direction of Carma, so from here it's about seven hours," replied my momma, rather tiredly.
"Wow, I didn't think it was that far. Let's have a quick coffee," said my grandpa. We walked into their camper, which was surprisingly big. When you walked in there was a blue couch along the wall and a TV mounted on the end wall. A table was on the other side of the couch and across from that was a door, which I assumed lead to the bathroom. Down from the bathroom was a long counter with a fridge. The other end was a closed off bedroom and by the opening were bunk beds. We went and sat down at the table.
"So Ella, how's your life been. I haven't seen you since you were this big." said Grandma, holding her hands about four feet off the floor. "Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Ya, his name's Kaleb," I replied. We'd met at one of the rodeos I'd been in. He had been bronc riding, and I'd been barrel racing.
"They're really cute together," my momma smiled. She really liked Kaleb. He was a real gentleman, and anyone compared to my last boyfriend was great. Oliver had been an ass and was always smoking, so I don't know why I ever liked him.
"Awe. That's good. Young love is so refreshing." Grandma gushes. We continued to talk about basically everything, and then it was time for momma to head out.
"I wish you could stay longer, but at least we got to catch up," sighed Grandma, and Grandpa nodded his head in agreement.
"Ya, hopefully you'll get to stay longer next time," said Grandpa. We all said our goodbyes and Momma drove off in a cloud of dust.
"Do you want to go see the beach before supper?" Questioned Grandma. I was planning on spending a lot of time there, so I was excited to see it.
"Sure lets go!" I reply. We walk a short distance before arriving at a beautiful beach. The water was an unreal, shimmery, turquoise and the beach looked warm and inviting. Above the sand was stretch of grass with a few trees towering above with picnic tables underneath. There was even a dock. There was a few people stretched out on towels, and some in the water but not much. There was one guy who caught my attention though. He was super handsome, and looked like he worked out.
He caught me staring and winked at me.
Maybe this summer wouldn't be as bad as I had thought.
