I might've been sitting in Biology class listening to my teacher drone on about nothing really important, but my mind was somewhere else. I just couldn't stop thinking about Duncan. And the more I thought the more I realized there was something off about him. Maybe it was the fact that his skin seemed unnaturally pale or maybe it was the way he held himself. Either way he was already messing with my head, despite the two minute conversation we had, and I did not like that.
"Did you hear about that new guy?" a girl's voice drifted from the front row and I paused to listen.
"Yes! I saw him and let me tell you, he's freaking HOT" a second girl said excitedly. I scoffed at this, even though it was true, and the girl's turned to me with a glare.
"Freak. Stop listening to us talk, it's stalkerish" the blond said with disgust while her groupie nodded in agreement. I quickly put my head down and stared at the doodles on my book. They weren't worth my time.
The bell rang signaling the end of class and I was grateful to get away from those two bimbos. It was also lunch too and I was beyond hungry. In case you haven't noticed I LOVE food.

I beelined for the cafeteria and got my usual plate of two pieces of pizza, a brownie, a large soda, two bags of chips, and french fries. Oh yeah, I'm not the healthiest eater either, It's a wonder I don't weigh 200 pounds yet!
I found an empty table way in the back and sat down ready to dig into the glorious mound of food that sat before me. I had just taken my first bite when a girl planted herself across from me and pulled out her own lunch.
I stopped mid-bite and just stared at her. In the two years I have been at this school no one has ever sat with me. It may be hard to believe but it's true, ever since people heard my mom died they just kind of ignored me, they just didn't want to deal with a broken girl.
The girl noticed me staring and she smiled apologetically, "Sorry I don't mean to interrupt but i'm new here and you just looked kind of lonely so I wanted to change that." Her voice was adorable and so was the rest of her. She had a black bob that framed her heart-shaped face and beautiful blue eyes. Her small frame was hidden under a bright yellow sweater and white jeans. She was almost child-like.
"Uh, no it's fine, it's just no one really approaches me nowadays" I said quietly, her face smile dropped immediately.
"Oh..I'm sorry."
"Don't be, I like being by myself anyways" I forced a smile onto my face even though inside I was hurting. She stared at me with big eyes, it was a little bit uncomfortable actually.
"I used to be like you" she spoke with a sudden intensity and quietness, fixing me in place with her wide-eyed gaze.
"What?" but it didn't seem like she had heard me. Her eyes were glazed over, transported to some faraway place that I wasn't apart of. In a span of two seconds she had completely zoned out from the world. To say I was freaked out would be an understatement. I mean I wasn't all that normal but this girl just wasn't settling right with me.
"IT changed me" I could barely make out the mumble of words coming from her mouth.
"What changed you?"
"Blood" I sucked in my breath as she whispered the word. Okay this was beginning to be too much, I was seriously freaking out now and some primal animal instinct inside me was screaming for me to run away.
And so I did. Well not run exactly, but more of a hurried speed-walk.
I didn't care if it was rude to just up and leave her -she was hella creepy- I just knew I had to leave. I decided to just skip out on the rest of school -for fear of running into her again- and head home.
Today was turning out to be one freaky day.
