Hey there!! My name's Danielle Jordan Willks, I'm eighteen years old and I live here in Sydney, Australia. I'm originally from Salem, Oregon. Moving from Oregon to Australia is one of the shittiest trips I've ever had. You're sitting on a plane, cramped against people you don't even know. But you have to be put through hell to get to where you're supposed to be right?
Once we arrive in Australia, I start getting a bit excited to see our new house. I smile as we pull into the driveway, and my mom excitingly says...
"Home sweet home Dani J."
Dani J, it's a nickname my mom gave me when I was younger. And I guess it just kinda stuck. I hop out of the car and run to the front door. I push it open and walk inside. As I step into the foyer, I see a glass bead chandelier hanging from that vaulted ceiling. I squeal and start doing a happy dance. As I start spinning around and dancing, I hear someone laugh. I jump and get wide eyed. I turn to see my mom smiling from ear to ear. I run over to her and hug her.
If you're wondering where my dad is, I'll tell you. At the age of five , when I was just a little girl. I could remember the moment very vaguely. My mom and I were driving down the road, and my mom was pointing out pointless landmarks. I would giggle and smile. We had to stop at the grocery store to get me some juice boxes, but when my mom stepped out of the car her phone started ringing. She answered it and stood there a minute. Five minutes later she's in tears. I can remember looking at her and saying...
"Mummy, what's wrong?"
She looks at me and says...
"Dad has officially blown his role as your father."
I just kind nonchalantly nodded my head. Not really sure of what had happened. And that's really all I can remember. But not having a dad isn't an easy process to go through. Many kids nowadays get to sit on the front steps and wait for their dads to come home. Unlike me, I get to sit alone in a silent house until 5:30P.M. rolls around. But I know for a fact that my mom is one of the greatest women alive. Just thinks about how great she is makes me smile. I get interrupted from my thoughts by my moms phone going off...
