I awoke in his arms and a blush spread slowly across my face as I remembered the night before.
“It’s about time sleepy head.” He whispered in my ear. I stiffened.
“What time is it?” I asked.
“Don’t worry. It is only ten o’clock. We have two hours until we have to leave each other.”
But, I didn’t want to leave him. The night helped up until the… thing. It was wonderful. The whole night was witch makes me not want to lose him.
And then I realized he could hear my thoughts.
I stood only to find that I was dizzy. I fell but he caught me before I hit the ground.
“Are you okay?” He asked frantic.
“Yeah, I’m fine, just dizzy.”
“Moth, vampires don’t get dizzy.” And that’s when I became noxious. I ran to the edge of the trees and began to throw up the remains of the blood in my stomach. “Oh my god, are you throwing up? There is something wrong here. I… I don’t know what to do.” I grabbed my stomach with my hand and that’s when I felt the bump that had not been there yesterday.
Was I… no, that isn’t possible. I’m a vampire that can’t happen. Even if I was, the only person I had ever slept with was Lucas and that was just last night, I wouldn’t be showing this early. I wouldn’t even be sick yet.
I didn’t know much about pregnancy but I did know I had all the signs and I also knew that it was too early to be showing them.
And then I felt it kick.
I gasped silently and tears streaked down my face as I began to smile.
“What? What is it? Are you okay?” Lucas asked me pulling my hair back from my face.
“Everything is fine but I do need a phone.” I whispered. He pulled a small silver cell phone from his pocket and handed it to me. I dialed the local hospital.
I stepped away from Lucas and called the hospital. A reception desk answered.
“St. Ridge hospital, may I help?” The woman asked bitterly.
“Yes, can you connect me to the pregnancy center?” I whispered silently though I knew Lucas could hear both me and the people on the other end.
His head snapped up and his jaw dropped. I smiled at him slowly but he didn’t budge.
“One moment please.” She said.
There was strange music and then someone answered.
“Doctor Badges, may I help you?” The women on the other end answered.
“Yes, I think I’m pregnant.”
“Okay, when was your last menstrual cycle?”
I smiled knowing I would never have one again but I answered anyways. “May Twelfth.”
“Is there any morning sickness, any occasional motion sickness, or any dizziness from standing?”
“Yes, yes and yes.”
“Is there a small amount of growth in the stomach?”
I pulled my shirt up and saw what I knew was not normal for being pregnant just for one night. I was already the size of a four month pregnant woman.
“Yes.” I whispered shocked.
Lucas fell to his knees in front of me and wrapped his arms around my waist burying his face against my stomach. There was a small kicking against his face and he gasped silently.
“Mam, congratulations, you are pregnant. Since your last period was three months ago I would say that your two to two and a half months pregnant.” I hung the phone up quickly.
Lucas sighed and then began to stand. “I’m sorry, if I would have known it was possible I wouldn’t of-“
“No, it wasn’t your fault, I wanted to. I’m only a day along and the size a four month along woman so I would say I have,” I stopped and thought it over. I gasped loudly. “We have two and a half days.”
Lucas flinched and then took my hand in his. “We have to tell the others.”
The run back was a big blur. All I could think about was my baby.
“It’s a boy.” I whispered as we entered the tunnel.
“How do you know?” He whispered back.
“I just do.”
We ran the rest of the way in silence. We ran into the entrance of the cave and everyone stopped what they were doing to turn and look at us.
“We have very strange, very weird news.” Lucas whispered.
“It’s a miracle.” I hissed. Lucas looked at me and then back out to the crowd.
“Somehow, our leader is… umm, well, she is pregnant.” He whispered the last word though I knew the vampires heard.
Kat stepped through the crowd as the vampires all gasped and hissed. A smile was on her face but it faded when she saw the look on ours.
“I’m sorry but I didn’t catch the last word. She is what?” She whispered looking confused.
“I’m pregnant.” I said looking down to my feet.
“What? How,” She asked Starring at Lucas.
“We, umm, well last night we… you get it. And then this morning we awoke to this.” I whispered when I walked to her very quietly so that only she could hear. I placed her hand on my stomach and the babe kicked her hand.
“But what does this mean?” She asked me completely ignoring Lucas as he came to stand next to her.
“That I am having a child but, don’t worry, Kat. He wants to be with you not me.” I whispered low enough so that it stayed between us but loud enough so that Lucas could hear also.
His head snapped up and he grabbed me by the shoulders and lifted me so that my feet didn’t touch the ground and took off running towards the cave entrance and finally sat me down when we were a distance away so that the vampires wouldn’t hear.
“I told you I loved you. I showed you how much I loved you. I just can’t be with you.” He kissed me once more and then left me there in the darkness of the cave.
