Slave Trader’s Girl

Prologue

“Hey, Laynlie, come over here and help me!” my dad yelled. I was sitting in my house, trying to tune out the world.

My name is Laynlie and I’m a slave trader’s daughter. I live in McKenna County in the Bluestar Kingdom. A slave trader is usually a man of a very pure bloodline who lives pretty well. They very rarely have children because King Michael believes that having a child will soften a slave trader and the King will come up with reasons for you to be fired. That’s why I technically don’t exist. Before my father married my mother he was very important to the King. When he married, the King told him that marrying would be a very bad decision. My dad didn’t listen and married my mom.

A year later my parents gave birth to me. My mom said that when the King’s men came they would always harass her about marrying a slave trader. When I was five, my parents told me that I didn’t technically exist. When I was ten, my mother went to the forest and never came back. My dad and I believe that the King’s men took her and killed her. From then on, my dad hid me at night and never let me leave the property. He never even let me leave the house without him.

Honestly, I don’t always listen to him. I pretend to be a slave whenever someone comes and talks to me. That isn’t often, most people are too afraid to talk. Some are softly sniffling or full out crying. I know I should try to comfort them, but I have nothing good to say.

Most people consider my father as a horrible person, but to me and to my mother and to people who get to know him, he’s a great person. Don’t get me wrong, I think slavery is wrong, but to keep me off the street and even in slavery, he needs a job and this one pays well and is open. Somebody has to do it.

Hi, my name is Maci Hyler and I just started writing this story. The prologue is pretty boring, but I promise it'll get better! Thanks for everyone who reads, comments and likes!
