Chapter 2

Alyx's Friends

Alyx’s PoV

“Alyx… Alyx…”  my mum said quietly as she shook me awake. “Your friends are downstairs, waiting”. You made arrangements to go into town at ten, and it’s half past. “Crap”. I slid out of bed and I cursed as I ran down the stairs. “Sorry guys, I’ll be with you in five”  I called, hoping they could hear me from the bottom of the stairs. I took my clothes from the kitchen, ran back up the stairs, took a shower and got dressed. I grabbed my bank and shook all of the money out. Eight pounds? Is that it?  I earned my own money; I disliked having to take money off my parents, even though they could easily afford it. I went on newspaper rounds on Wednesdays after school, and I’d earn around £40 easily.  But what had I spent it on? “I’ll worry about that later” I said, thinking aloud. I ran down the stairs again, shoved on my  shoes and grabbed my jacket.  I walked slowly into the living room, wondering what my friends would say about me being so late.  “Hello…” I said. “Alyx…” Steve began, his mouth full of food. (He was interrupted by Sophie, Telling him how rude and disgusting it was to talk with your mouth full)   I nodded towards him. “Butterball” I replied. Steve Ballins. If this was America, he’d be the ‘pretentious Jock’ of our social group. We’d given him the nickname ‘Butterball’ because at the school rugby team try-outs, whenever the ball was passed to him, he’d drop it.

“You’re late!” exclaimed Sophie. She checked her watch. “Thirty-Seven minutes late!” Sophie was always very well organised, and always on time. This was down to four years at a discipline camp. Sophie used to be in trouble all the time at school, so every summer, for four years in a row,  her parents would send her away.  Now she is a completely different person, she’s never late for school, she always passes tests with more than 95% marks, and she is NEVER in trouble.

“Well Sophie, at least we got breakfast made for us” Bryan commented. Bryan is Sophie’s twin brother. His nickname is ‘Chip’ because he is a somewhat computer genius, although he tries to shrug this image off and act a bit cooler, to try and fit in more, I suppose. He wears large glasses, and has dark hair, completely unlike his sister, whose hair is honey blonde.

“A good breakfast it is too” Said Marc, Still stuffing his face with a slice of fried bread. “Leave some for me, will you?” I joked. He laughed. “Certainly, Boss” He replied, with a wide grin on his face. I went into the kitchen, took a plate from the cupboard, an egg and sausage from the frying pan and the ketchup and orange juice from the fridge, and headed back into the living room.

“Mum, Can I borrow £30?” I asked as I walked by her in the hall. “Ask your dad Hun, I’ve not got any money on me at the moment” I groaned.  I walked back to the kitchen, where my dad was puzzling over where half of his breakfast had went. I grinned. “Dad, can I borrow some money? I’ve spent all of mine” he sighed. “Alright, how much do you want?”  “£30 would be nice” He pulled his wallet out of his back pocket, and handed me £40. “Thanks dad!” I said cheerily. “That’s because I don’t give you pocket money” He admitted.  “Okay, Thanks again” I strode off happily.

Once everyone had finished breakfast we prepared to leave the house. Before we left, my mum approached. "Alyx, do you mind taking this to that antique place on the corner of Main Street? It was your grans". I moaned. "Alright then".

The next chapter will be more interesting, I promise! :D
