For a brief moment nobody moves; in shock of what we just heard. I look around and Josh catching my eye smirks at me, before standing up and strolling through the door. Although inside I am scared of the unknown and failing in the first round, I know I have to move on so I get up.
I am the second one through. This corridor reminds me of the one from earlier; small with doors lining either side, however the difference is that the doors on the left are close together, but on the right there are fewer doors with large gaps separating them. Opening the first door on my left, I see a small room with a bench on the far side, which reminds me of a pool changing room and I guess that is the purpose of the room; to get changed in. Noticing what I am wearing, a purple dress and black ballet pumps, I decide I need to get changed.
Now I open the door on my right and this room is much larger and full of clothes and a few people, meaning more people have built up the courage to move on. There is a range of clothes; mostly practical, but some look like what you would wear for a party. If someone wants to try and look good while trying to get out the maze, it's up to them, but I wouldn't advise it. I grab clothes that look practical and comfy, nothing that looks particularly fashionable and then go into a changing room. The first few doors that I try to open are locked, but then I finally get to an unlocked one.
I quickly get changed into the black leggings, white top, black jacket and boots, conscious of time, before rushing into the next room on the right. It turns out to be a kitchen, a rather large one at that. It has white marble floor with counters and fridges scattered all over it, all black to contrast with the flooring. On the counters there are every type of kitchen utensils you could need and crates full of non-perishable food and I am sure the fridges will be full with the rest of the food; there seems an awful a lot for only the twenty of us. Throughout the kitchen I see around half the competitors either making something to bring with them into the maze or just having a snack on something they see. I look around to see if there is anyone I recognise, but Jake notices me first.
"Piper, over here," he calls.
I immediately spot him in the far corner, cutting slices of bread so I walk over to him as it's nice to have a bit of company.
"How are you feeling?" I ask him aware that when we first met he was very panicky.
"So much better. Having a task really takes my mind off the fact we are trapped and are about to compete in the first round of a game show."
"Yeah," I say smiling as it's good he's feeling better, "Can I use the bread after you?"
"I'll make something for you, I am already making Lucy's and I have nothing better to do. I have checked all the rooms and all there is, is the changing rooms, clothes room, kitchen, four bedrooms and another living room so I'd rather be doing something productive than sitting in the living room counting down the minutes till we leave."
I realise that it would have been a good plan to check all the rooms before doing something, but I can do that after this conversation. "If it's not bother to you," I start.
"It's fine," he replies.
It takes me a moment to realise that he said he was making a meal for Lucy, but she isn't here, "Where is Lucy?"
"She's getting changed into something more suitable than a dress," he says and I wonder why all the girls were dressed up for this.
"Still?" I enquire as they probably left the room just after me and it doesn't take that long to get changed.
"Well, after you left, I said to her that we should go as well as otherwise we would get nothing done as you snapped me out of the fright I was feeling, but she was really scared of what the maze could entail and didn't want to do it. However, I reassured her that it wouldn't be too bad as they only needed one person to fail and I said that I would stick by her for the whole thing and finally got her to come along with me. We saw the clothing room first so she grabbed something to get changed into, but I thought what I was wearing was fine so grabbed two bags, one for me and one for her and then checked out the rest of the rooms before coming in here to make something."
