Crimson was your average everyday adult. Except for the fact that she's twenty years old, out of college, and still living with her parents. Her life seemed pretty normal, until her parents arranged a forced marriage between her, and a complete stranger. Little did she know that this particular stranger would turn her whole life around, and return the smile that once lit up on her face.
"Good morning Seth." I blew a kiss to my brother's photo, and headed to the bathroom. As I stared at the mirror, I cried. What happened last month... the accident...it's ruined me. Just seeing his lifeless body there in that coffin made me want to take his place. If I could go back in time, I'd switch seats with him, just so that I would be the one to go, not him. He didn't deserve this.
Without bothering to brush my teeth, I slipped into a robe and slippers. I have a pretty pathetic life. A twenty year old, still living with her parents, and just finished college. I have no idea what I'm going to do with my life. No talents or aspirations, the only job I'm probably capable of right now is to be a waitress.
Since my parents were out, I turned up the speakers to one of my favorite songs. I started dancing while making some coffee. While shuffling my feet and swaying my hips, I decided to ditch the robe and just hang out in my pj's. My phone rang, and I was happy to see that my boyfriend was calling.
"Hi Peter!" I cheered.
"Hey Crimson. Hey, nice dance moves. By the way, I am loving your teddy bear underpants." He laughed.
I looked up and saw him winking at me from a window, which just so happened to be conveniently placed across my kitchen window. I smirked as I waltzed towards, with my phone still against my ear. Closing the curtains and grinning, I laughed.
"Enjoying the view now?"
"Well..."
We had a little conversation before I hung up. Peter is such a great guy. He helped me so much after the death of my brother. Although maybe a little clingy, but that doesn't bother me. I just wish he would propose to me already.
The front door opened, and I quickly hid behind the counter, due to my current attire, and saw my parents come through the door.
"Oh! Good morning Crimson! What... are you wearing?" My mother asked.
"Um, my pa-ja-mas?"
"Oh well, have fun with that!" she said placidly.
"Um yeah. I'll just be going then." Embarrassed, I skidded to the stairs.
Running to my room and quickly shut the door behind me, I leaned on the door with my hands pressed against the cold wood, and I sighed heavily. In the face of boredom, and took a stroll around my room, then just flopped down on my bed, and stared at the ceiling. What am I doing with my life.
Three Weeks Later
"There is no way I'm wearing that! I'll look like a disco ball!" I yelled.
"Oh sweetie, please! I want you to look your very best!" my mother squealed. "Please! It's a very special occasion! You can't wear that! It's so unprofessional! Besides, it doesn't even hug your body."
"That's the point."
"Listen, this is important to me AND your father. Just this one time?
An annoyed frown crept onto my face, but after a few moments, I grabbed the dress and stomped over to my room. The dress was so utterly uncomfortable! It was like the interior was make from porcupine needles. The bottom was extremely long, making it difficult for me to walk, and the way it fit on me made it feel like a swim suit. It was NOT enjoyable.
I sighed and looked over to a mirror, noticing how messy my hair looked. All of a sudden, my mother came bursting in with a bag filled with who knows what.
"Mom, no." There was enough acne on my face, and I didn't need makeup to make it worse.
"Oh come on! For once try to be presentable!" she cried.
"All of this preparation, and you still haven't even told me the special occasion!"
My father came in while tying his bowtie and said, "Oh princess you look beautiful! Just fix your hair and makeup. I'll start the car."
As he walked out of my room, I yelled, "Don't call me princess! I am a strong independent woman!"
"Let's get started!" my mom sings.
Next thing I knew, brushes and sponges and some kind of wand were being thrown at my face. After about ten minutes, I felt a tug on my hair, and realized that my mom was already starting my hair. I saw curlers and hairspray, and lots of glitter. After everything was done, she squealed in excitement. I looked in the mirror, and my eyebrows rose immediately. My hair was put up with strands of blonde curls hanging off the side. The massive amounts of cosmetics that were thrown at my face luckily covered up my acne, but it felt heavy. It was like every inch of my body was covered in glitter. Even the shoes! I'm surprised I haven't started shedding.
It was difficult to walk out of the door with the heels I had to wear, and the fact that my glasses were taken away didn't help my situation.
We pulled up to valet parking of this huge building called, "Le Salon de Sirene." I've yet to ask what this whole fiasco is all about.
As I walked into the huge eating establishment, a waiter walked up to us.
"Ah, you must be the Revaldies. Welcome. Your table is right over here. I assume this is Miss Crimson Revaldi?" he asked as he looked in my direction.
My parents nodded with a big smile on their face, as my mom asked, "Has he arrived yet?"
The waiter nodded with a goofy smile, and led us to our table. I started to become anxious.
We approached a table where a young gentlemen patiently sat. My father began to speak.
"Sweetie, this is David. David Wellington. David, this is my daughter, Crimson."
He stood and brought out his hand. "Hello, it's very nice to meet you."
"Same to you bud." This certain remark caused my mother to glare at me.
"So..." my she started. "I heard you just graduated from your University! Congratulations!"
"Thank you. I heard that Crimson also recently graduated from a local college. Congratulations to you as well!" David cheered.
"Thank you." I said. "Um mom, what's the special occasion? You've been keeping me in suspense for so long."
"Oh, you still haven't told her?" David asked. He looked nervous.
"Uh no. Not yet. I thought it would be best to tell her, here!" she said. She sounded very nervous as well.
"Mom, what's going on?" Now I was getting nervous.
"Well Crimson, uh... you see, David's father owns a very successful company, and they're very wealthy people. David's father is a good friend of your father, so they thought it would be a good idea to... what I'm trying to say is... say hello to your fiancée!"
