"It was my first day of high school in a new state. I was terrified. I didn't know anyone and everyone already had friends from elementary school. I wasn't known for making friends in new places but I promised my mom I would try.

As I walked up those steps to my new prison, I saw all kinds of kids. All in little cliques. I could easily identify most of them. Jocks, cheerleaders, nerds, goth, wannabes, band, bullies, vegan and my personal least favorite, the perfs. I didn't fit in anywhere.

I entered the building and there were more cliques. There was no escape. Everyone looked at me like I was fresh meat. It was scary. I looked at the piece of paper I had received and found my locker number. I walked with my head held low and my eyes down.

While I was at my locker, a group of guys came up to me.

"Hey, look!" one of them said. "New girl!"

"Just ignore them and they will go away," I kept telling myself.

"Hey, new girl, what's your name?" he asked.

I ignored him.

"I said what's your name!!?" he said angrily and took my books and threw them on the floor. Right then someone else came over and stood in front of me.

"Leave her alone," he said.

"What are you gonna do about it, huh?" the bully said as he tried to punch him.

"Okay, you probably shouldn't have done that." He blocked the bully's punch by grabbing his fist and then snap kicked him in the gut. He then flipped him and the bully was finished. When he got up, looked me straight in the eye and said, "One day, he's not going to be here to protect you."

I bent down to pick up my books and he bent down to help me. "Thanks for th-" I started.

"Don't talk about it," he said quickly.

He got up to leave.

"Wait," I said. "Who are you?"

"Leo." he replied and walked down the hall.
