"Why do we have to walk the stupid dog?" Ramous grumbled as the large german shepherd led him down the path through the woods. He ran a hand through his short blond hair and muttered under his breath about how he was going to miss the big football game on tv.
"Come on. It's Aria's dog." Darik replied lazily as they walked alongside his older brother. Famous continued to grumble as they wove through the worn dirt path between the ancient oak trees and whispering pines. Darik shook his head, his shaggy chestnut brown hair falling in front of his deep green eyes. He smiled to himself, ignoring Ramous. They walked in silence as the setting sun sent shadows through the trees. The sky was ablaze with brilliant shades of sherbert pink, ruby red, and clementine orange.
The only noise to be heard was the padding of the brother’s feet in their worn black DC sneakers and the heavy breathing of the dog between them. The air around them was saturated with humidity as dark black storm clouds rolled into view. The trio finished their walk through the woods a strange noise echoes through the dusk, a whirring noise but much less pleasant. The sound of metal gears grinding against each other angrily. The brothers stopped in confusion but the dog ran off toward the noise. “What was that?” Darik asked nervously, looking at his brother.
“Isn’t that the noise from that show Aria likes?” Ramous asked, a blank look on his face. Without another word the brothers sprinted off after the german shepherd. They raced through the darkening streets after the unknown noise. They rounded the corner toward their home to see the familiar blue police box standing proudly in the middle of the street. Darik’s heart sank to his stomach as he ran to the wooden structure before pounding roughly on the door.
“Aria! Aria don’t go!” he shouted at the door.
“What on earth are you talking about?” A confused voice rang lightly from behind him. Darik spun on his heel and rushed to the girl before him. She giggled happily and wrapped her small arms around his neck. He pressed his face into her soft light brown hair and inhaled the soft scent of lavender and vanilla. “Are you okay?” she asked, placing her soft small hands on either side of his face. Darik leaned back to look at the girl he held in his arms. She stood a foot shorter than him at just over five feet.
