Harry smiled weakly at the camera as the photographer scolded him for not concentrating properly on the photo shoot. He could see the other members from the corner of his eye shooting him worried glances. He had been off ever since they stepped foot on the set.
But really how could he concentrate when she was there, watching the shoot happening with calculating eyes. Not that she could not not watch it, it was her job after all. To watch the artists pose and fix anything that was out of place with them.
Harry had seen her at a few other photo shoots and recordings before this but each time he couldn’t seem to stop his heart from wanting to jump out of his chest. At first he had blamed it on the closeness she was forced to have with them. How was she supposed to fix his hair during shoots if she wasn’t standing right in front of him? As he noticed the other member’s indifference looks as she tinkered with their outfits he started getting worried. Maybe I’m just developing some sort of claustrophobia? He tried to convince himself to no avail.
After the third time he saw her at a shooting for one of the popular magazine featuring One Direction he decided to come to terms with himself. Her chocolate brown long locks and sparkling blue eyes along with her naturally tanned skin had him distraught in a way he had never been before.
“Harry, stop spacing out and pay attention!” Liam, who had his arm wrapped around Harry’s shoulders and was smiling broadly at the camera, muttered to him under his breath.
Harry shook his head and made his smile wider, trying to ignore the tall pretty girl with blue eyes who seemed to be staring at him with interest. He almost laughed. Interest? In him? Yea right! Someone like her would never take interest in someone like him especially not with this career.
Half an hour later the photographer called out that they were finished and thanked them for their time. Louis and Niall immediately left the set, loudly explaining they had the rest of the day off and weren’t planning on spending it standing around here any longer. Liam muttered something about having to hurry to an interview on TV before he was late and rushed out the door.
Zayn strayed behind, aimlessly loitering the dressing room obviously wanting to say something to Harry.
“Alright, spill it.”
Zayn coughed a couple of times “I don’t know what you’re talking about…”
“You’ve been following me around for the last five minutes looking like you might die if you let me out of your sight.”
Zayn clenched his fist “I-I just- I know what you’re thinking!” as Harry raised an eyebrow at his outburst Zayn continued. “I know how you fancy that make up girl or whatever she is. And I think that if this is going to interfere with our work I’d rather you just tell her your feelings or forget about her all together.”
Harry stared at Zayn with his eyes wide and probably his mouth wide open. Where did that confession come from?! “I, uh, how did you know that?”
He rolled his eyes “Harry, it’s pretty obvious with the way you swoon every time she even glances your way.”
Harry looked away “Do not…”
Zayn patted Harry’s shoulder before walking towards the door “Just do something okay?” and with that he was out the door.
Harry grabbed his bag where he kept his schedules and things he needed throughout the day and headed out of the room sometime after Zayn.
Tell her how I feel? That definitely can’t happen! She’ll reject me and I’ll look like a love struck fool! Like hell am I going to-
His train of thought was interrupted as he spotted a familiar beautiful brown haired girl with her face stuck in a book. He bit his lip and closed his eyes as he debated on going to her or not. He sighed; at least if she rejects me I can finally get over her.
The bench she was sitting on was long enough to allow him not to get too close for her comfort. Nervously, he turned towards her. “Hi, I’m Harry.” Smooth.
She smiled with a mischievous spark in her eyes. “Yes, I’m sure more than half the country knows you’re Harry.”
Harry smiled, not knowing what else he could do in this situation. He always comes off as the smooth one with the ladies on TV. But in real life, in real life he’s just as nervous as any other guy out there. “Right...” Damn it, man up! He scolded himself; you’re coming off as an idiot!
Harry decided to play it off as the playfully flirting type, “Would you mind telling me your, surely, lovely name?” Harry wondered if it would be too weird to hit himself in the face.
To his surprise, she smiled, “Evelyn,” she said with an amused giggle. That itself made sure Harry wouldn’t be climbing out of this whole of love he’s fallen deeply into. The feminine gesture made her look like the young lady she was. Not that her serious concentrated face didn’t turn Harry on just a little, but her beautiful blinding smile made Harry want to see more of it.
“Evelyn,” he tested it out “Beautiful, as expected…” Harry’s eyes widened when he realized he was talking out loud. Damn.
Evelyn smiled at him again, and suddenly she was feeling very grateful that she stayed a bit late after work for some peace to catch up on her reading.
Harry mustered up the courage to initiate more conversation to keep her interested and he couldn’t be happier every time she playfully blew off his advances, something in her eyes and smile told him he wasn’t really getting rejected. It seemed like hours had passed with just the two of them sitting on a bench talking outside a by now long abandoned studio.
He learned about her in those 45 minutes that he had the honor to spend with her. Harry learned how Evelyn was a major fan of Wonder Woman comic books -what she had been reading- and most importantly, that she was single.
Evelyn’s eyes widened as she happened to look across the street with the grandfather clock in it. Harry watched as she hurriedly gathered her belongings as she explained she had another photo shoot to go to in 10 minutes. As she grabbed her bag and dropped it on her shoulder, Harry couldn’t bear the thought of never talking to her again. Because surely if he lets her go now, without any promise of meeting again, everything will go back to normal. Casual nods of acknowledgment when they see each other at work and stiff smiles as she approaches to fix his hair.
Evelyn took one last look at him and muttered a quick “Goodbye.” She had barely taken 3 steps when Harry decided he wouldn’t let this chance escape him. Just because he’s famous doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve happiness. Harry grabbed Evelyn by the elbow and she looked back at him confused but hopeful. “I-Evelyn, maybe-no please, please go on a date with me.” Even though it was worded like a question it was clear Harry wouldn’t accept no for an answer.
Evelyn unexpectedly leaned in quickly to place a small kiss in the corner of his mouth while slipping a small piece of paper in Harry’s hand before hurrying away.
In a daze, Harry watched her disappear from his sight and looked down at the paper. In it was a seven digit number with a Wonder Woman logo drawn in the corner. Harry couldn’t remember her writing this while they were talking but that was probably due to the fact his eyes were busy taking in every aspect of her wonderful easy going personality that he was blinded to what her hands were doing.
Nobody could stop the wide smile that was on Harry’s face the whole day.
