The Etherials: Rift Among Worlds

Prologue:

It was a frigid November evening and a bitter wind blew the girls' short platinum blond hair, it whipping her eyes and cheeks, and carrying with it a hint of despair. She kept pushing her hair back behind her ears, though in the end, not succeeding, when the wind blew it into her face once more.

She shivered, pulling a little bundle of blankets closer towards herself to keep her little brother, who was wrapped up inside, warm.

She looked up as flakes of snow fell all around her.
" What's with all the snow!? How can this be normal?!"

She sighed then shivered again as the harsh wind began to howl in her ears. Then a sudden realization hit her, the howling she was hearing didn't sound like the wind, it sounded more like, well, a wolf, and that is when she began to panic.

Thoughts raced through her mind, some telling her to hide, others telling her to run. She was unsure what to do, so she bolted. She willed her feet as fast as they would go, and considering all the adrenaline running through her system was turning her legs into jello, she was tripping and stumbling in the thick snow. She could sense the wolf, he was getting closer and closer, and it seemed as if, despite all her effort, that she wasn't making any ground.

There was no where for her to go, she was surrounded by dense forrest, and she didn't know the way out. She stumbled for the final time landing face first in the powdery snow, sending snow flying in all directions. She pushed her self up ,shakily, on her knees. she was exhausted and no longer had the energy to stand.
Her little brother was bawling now, and she desperately tried to quell his crying, though to no avail.

She heard a rustle behind her and knew, he had found them, and there would be no escaping. In a raspy voice the wolf cooed,
" My, my, looks like our little owlett is all tuckered out now." She began to shake uncontrolably as she heard him approaching. " You were actually rather clever, my little owlett, but I bet you don't even realize why you were such trouble." His hot breath passed over her ear when he whispered " It's time to take a little nap now", and then her vision went dark.
