As I drove down the street, with the blur of traffic lights behind me, I reached for my hat and slipped it on. I let out a sigh as I pulled into his driveway and pulled out my phone.

The glow of its screen was vibrant as I shot Michael a text:

I'm outside, hurry up!

I tossed my phone aside as I waited and glanced at the clock. We were already 10 minutes late for work and with traffic this bad, we'd probably be 30. When he finally came out, he got in on the passenger's side, with a bagel hanging from his mouth.

I stared at him for a while before asking jokingly, "Where's mine?" His voice was muffled but I knew what he'd said, "Up yours." He grinned, then proceeded to take one out of his bag and hand it to me. His smile always seemed to brighten up my day. Michael was my first and only love . Before I graduated, I'd see him around school picking up his little sister. We'd always make that weird eye contact were you both end up looking at each other and  hurriedly look away. One day it was pouring down raining and he offered me a ride home, and I didn't want to get sick by walking home in the rain so I took his offer. I made my way up to his truck and for the first time I got a real good look at him and, he took my breath away. He was of a medium build with dark brown hair and eyes that if you looked into them, you could seemingly get lost.

Now do you believe in love at first sight?

Michael stared at me as I was day dreaming, drifting down memory lane. He snapped his fingers in front of me, "Hey Su, are you there???" I snapped out of it and continued to drive as he took out a brown paper bag and handed me a bagel.

Rolling my eyes, I grabbed it from his hand and held it in my mouth as I pulled out of his driveway. With the bagel still in his mouth he muffled out more words, "To Subway." I laughed, "No shit."

My middle class Ford truck got us to work in less than 20 minutes. With the exception of going 70 mph on the freeway. The boss, Regina, wasn't surprised that Mike and I were late. She was pretty laid back and chill considering that she's in her early twenties. She looked at us as we entered and chuckled to herself, "Well it's about time." I grinned and went to put my things in the back. Before I started to serve food, I went to the restroom to wash my hands. I looked up in the mirror which I don't do often, considering I'm not a big fan of my face. I was partially surprised, my face has definitely ; it was no longer chubby. I grabbed a handful of my long brown hair and scoffed at all the split ends I had. Typical, I thought to myself. My eyes were a shade of brown and my cheeks were their usual rosy red. Since I've gotten older, my face has began to thin out. It wasn't as round as it was a few years back. I had a full set of lips that I thought was the best feature of my face. I looked away and dried my hands off on my jeans. Today looked like it was gonna be a busy one, the place was packed.

It was late in the afternoon and Michael had to be somewhere so he left early. Regina had left awhile ago, so now I was alone. A small group of people sat in a booth enjoying their food. There was also several other people eating. The day went by fast, I blankly took people's orders all day long with a cheesy smile on my face.

It was fully dark out now. I stepped outside and enjoyed the crisp spring breeze against my skin. The sky was a vibrant and beautiful shade of purple, with what looked like a million stars. It was early April and the flowers were blooming nicely. I stepped back inside to get ready to lock the place up, it was nearly closing time, but as I did so, a strange guy walked inside.

I turned around to face him, "I'm sorry sir, but we're closed."

He looked at me for a long while before laughing to himself. Regardless of what I just said, he took a seat in a booth near the door.
