It was an unusually hot day here. The hot yellow sun beating down on our uniforms. Today we were instructed to stay outside, recreational time the guard had said when he knocked on the door. Of course i was the first to run outside, not wanting to mess with the guards. God only knows what they do to people who disobey.

My family and I had just moved to a new perimeter because our original perimeter was unsafe according to the headmaster. The headmaster is the top guard for a perimeter. They make commands to people so make sure things run smoothly over our country. Country. How is this a country? I find myself asking this question many times. Looking through our areas issued tablets, or laptops I could never find anything about America. All I know is America was supposed to be great, an old friend of my fathers told us about America and how they had a democracy and we were free. We never saw him after that, They said he moved to a new perimeter but we all think he disappeared.

I play with my skirt trying to cool myself from the suns flaming rays, attracting to the black cotton like a moth to a light. I look down at my tablet scrolling through the Internet when our news pops up, i quickly open it looking at the headlines of the page, Higgin and His Next Plan, was written in giant bold letters on top. Higgin is the dictator of our country, Platomia. Founded it himself from the rubbles of what used to be Amercia many years ago. I skim through in his plan to stop this fights against Platomia, the people of Perimeter C. I never understood why people would want to rebel here, do they know the consequences? Platomia has all we need, at least that was how I was thought.

I never disobey our rules here in Perimeter F, my friend Riley has disappeared after she broke curfew and tried to escape her pod, i never saw her ever again. My parents say i have to follow the rules so i wont end up like Riley.

"Gail! Its time to come inside, dinner has arrived." Mother calls. I fix my skirt grab my tablet and walk into our pod to find our food being set. Avery, my sister slouches down into the chair next to me, still unhappy about the change of areas and pods. We stay quiet as we wait for father to come of duty from patrolling the leveling school.

"Something smells great what are we having today barb?" My father hangs his coat and gives mom a kiss.

"Looks like they made chicken. Again." Mother looks down also upset about the move, father and I were the only ones who weren't greatly affected. Father takes his seat and has basic conversation to us about being a guard here and how we should be grateful while we eat. The food is bland here in P-F and they say it is the strictest perimeter here.

"I've met one of your teachers at leveling school Gail, she seems thrilled to meet you. Are you scared to be leveling up tomorrow?" My dad explains cocking his head to the side like some sort of lost dog.

I stare at him, not quite sure what to say. I did not want to level up alone without my friends. My father awaits my answer but i merrily shake my head in acceptance to the change of levels. Dinner was quite tense tonight. Mother cleaned off the table put the scraps in the trash, and put the plates to the shoot. Avery and I walked to our section of the pod to change into our sleeping uniforms and head to  bed. Today was awkward for us and I could just imagine what it will be like for leveling tomorrow.
