"I want to see him."
The usually rowdy conference room was filled with a deafening silence. Only the few nations that are left attended this meeting.
Wang Yao sat stiffly in his usual spot.
"I want to see him."
He tried in vain to ignore the droning of the news reporter, hiding his gaze that kept floating back to that empty spot.
//Where are his two friends? //
Then Yao remembered...
//Italy's heart is Venice which has already.... Sunk//
"I want to see him."
Yao felt his body fill up with the familiar trace of him. Even though taking on 70% of his population was quite a toll but this was the familiarity Yao had yearned for.
"I want to see him."
Suddenly, the doors of the conference room opened, two similar men with slightly different suits came in. Alfred's face was clouded why unusual sorrow and pain, greeting no one, he took a seat.
"Everybody." He cleared his throat,
"He doesn't have much time left."
//So this is how it ends...//
Yao closed his eyes in desperation.
The room hushed down after a short period of commotion. Everyone, his allies, enemies, friends... all showed great grief on their faces, no one wanted to lose another one. Yet Yao looked coldly at it all.
"I want to see him." Yao's sudden request interrupted the huge speech that Alfred was about to give. Everyone's gaze fell on him.
"I want to see him, America." Not the friendly "Al". Not the formal "Jones". Just "America".
"What gives you the right to see him, China?" Alfred pushed his glasses up slightly, reflecting a cold gleam, "You should know that Japan is mine!"
He was suddenly taken abruptly by the collar and shoved him onto the wall. China's gaze was sharp and cold like a gleaming knife. "I tolerated you sending to atom bombs to him without my permission! Your illegal military occupation after the war I also tolerated! You forced a marriage upon him which I tolerated too! And now you won't even let me fvcking see him, do you seriously believe that I daren't start a war with you?!" He roared with eyes so wide it seems as if the corners would rip." Wang Yao. Enough!" Arthur grabbed on to his arm attempting to loosen the grip he had around Alfred's throat." Honda is in 401, hurry."
With a cold snicker, Yao let go and without a response from Alfred he hurried out the conference room.
"I want to see him."
Kiku stood there, bathing in the glorious mid-summer sun that made him look transparent. He was much thinner from the last time Yao had seen him. The baggy hospital gown hang on him, as if threatening to crush him under its weight.
Yao tapped lightly on the glass, catching Kiku's attention. The once dead eyes was ignited by something the moment Kiku saw Yao.
"Yao kun." Kiku walked towards the glass with slightly trembling lips. The ward was completely sealed but even so, they knew what the other was saying.
That was how they exchanged fair wells and blessings to each other when Kiku was aboard the ship home many millennials ago.
"I came to see you... I miss you terribly." Yao pressed his palm against the glass, matching up with Kiku's. The two star-crossed lovers, separated by a glass pane, separated by loss and partings, intertwined their fingers together.
"I'm so glad." Kiku's eyes became slightly misted, he lightly pressed his lips onto the cruel, cold glass pane. "Please kiss me." Kiku asked with a carefree smile.
As if parted by millennials of time, two trembling pair of lips, parted by the glass overlapped each other...
In the bright morning sunlight, a figure disappeared as if evaporated; leaving nothing at all.
The voice of the news reporter sounded from behind.
"On July 20th, 2154 7:34am. The archipelago of Japan has sunk completely."
...But I still want to see him.
