jess' pov (point of view)

Yesterday was my 21st birthday and my mum surprised me with an impromptu trip to London. I've wanted to go to London for so long after living my entire life in the small country of New Zealand.

My Dad passed away about 2 years ago to alcohol and smoking, it was one of the most devastating moments in my life. My mother and I were in a complete mess at the time. We cried almost everyday for an entire month before going to councillors for help. I can't thank them enough for helping us get through the tough time. No one will ever understand how important councillors are until you've had them help you and make a difference to you life in such a way. My mum and I are alright now. She tends to have an occasional break down every now and then but i've learnt to support her instead of breaking down with her, telling her that everything happens for a reason and we'll be alright.

My mother and I boarded our flight and were ready to become 'hella touristy' in the amazing city of London. The journey took an entire 24 hours of air time and transfers before we finally arrived in London. I couldn't wait to get out of customs and breath in the fresh air and settle into out hotel. As we waited for our luggage I flicked through a couple of pamphlets and saw an amazing picture of Hyde park. I instantly knew that we had to go there and take pictures in the sunshine and enjoy a cute little picnic. I told mum and she though my idea of a chilled day at the park sounded good.

-next day- (i want to get the the interesting parts)

I woke up at 12:00pm due to jet lag and was surprised to see that my mum had ordered me pancakes. I got up, had a shower, got dressed, did my make up and ate brunch before heading out to Hyde park.

"what do you want to do first?" I asked mum

"whatever you want hun," She replied

"lets walk around the park,"

"sound good"

We walked around and chatted a bit before I saw a boy around my age walking around filming himself on a little camera. I thought it was kind of stupid and watched as he passionately chatted away to his camera as if people were actually watching him.

"Jess, I'm getting a little tired, you keep walking while i take a little rest on the park bench," mum said

"oh ok, i won't be long," I replied and kept walking.

I tried to catch up to the boy and try and listen to what he was saying, I saw him in the distance and starting running up behind him so I could eavesdrop. About 3 metres behind him I tripped on an acorn, screeched and hit the ground......

"Oh my god, are you ok love?" I heard his sexy British accent ask me

I looked up and saw the guy turn off his camera then hold out his hand toward me.

"O-oh yeah i'm f-fine, th-thanks," I stuttered then took his hand and he helped me off the ground.

I was so embarrassed and kept looking down at the ground hopping he would just walk away

"Wow nice accent by the way," he smiled at me before our eyes met.

"Oh thanks, you too," I replied

"Where are you from?"

"New Zealand,"

"Really?! I love New Zealand!"

"Yeah its pretty chill there,"

"I'm Joe by the way," he said then held if hand out

"i'm Jess," I said then shook his hand and stared into is bright blue eyes.

wow, he is hot.

"Where abouts are you heading?" Joe asked

"No where, I'm just walking around the park," I replied

"oh cool, lets walk together then," he said

I was about to say that I had to go back to my mum but his face was so adorable that I couldn't resist.

"sure thing," I said and smiled at him

We started chatting about why i was in London and he started telling me about his job as a youtube vlogger, which i found completely bizarre. We ended up walking and chatting for a good 10 minutes before he said that he had to go down some side street.

"it was nice chatting to you" Joe said

"you too!" I replied, looking into his gorgeous blue eyes.

"this might sound a little crazy but could i get your number so we can hang out while your in london? Maybe I could show you around?"

"oh, of corse you can, i'd love a tour of the city!" I said as I typed my number into his phone.

He gave me a quick hug before walking away.

oh my god, asdfghjkl what just happened? he's so cute, oh crap i forgot my mum.

I quickly WALKED (i learnt my lesson) back to the park bench where my mum was sitting to find that she wasn't there anymore. crap. I looked down at my phone,

MUMMA BEAR, 3 missed calls

oops

I quickly called her back.

"Oh my goodness Jess, where have you been? I've been worrying about you!" she squeaked through the phone

"I'm so sorry mum, I met a this guy and I kind of got distracted!"

"Oh Jess." I heard her sigh

"sorry mum,"

"Where are you now then?"

"Im back at the park bench that you had a rest on,"

"alright, stay there I'm coming,"

"ok, love you"

"love you too hun,"

-later that night-

"So Jess, do you want to tell me about this Joe guy you met?" mum smirked at me as we waited for our pizza

"well, he was super sweet and genuine," I started

"uh huh" mum said nodding

"he has AMAZING blue eyes, oh my god mum you've got to see!"

"just like dads," she mumbled

My heart sunk.

"just like dads," I whispered and pulled mum into a hug

I decided not to carry on talking about Joe and let mum have a little moment to herself before our pizza's arrived. We dug in and enjoyed the rest of the evening.

"i really hope Joe texts me tomorrow," I thought to myself as i fell asleep that night.
