Pulling my cape further into my face I walked out of my shadow, entering the safe walls of the city. The sun shone brightly, so I had to hide my sensitive skin. My family banished me from their rebel-household because I would refuse to kill people. So here I was. Walking trough the dirt streets, fields and trees on the side. My breathing hitched when someone pushed me and I fell on the ground. I started coughing, my body trembling from exhaustion. I didn't know how many days had passed since I left home, but it had to be at least one week. One week since I last ate and at least two days since I last drank anything. I felt how my eyes wanted to close, aching from the bright light. I could also hear the voice of my father. 'You unworthy piece of shit. Look at you. Lying on the ground like the whimpy humans you adore so much' ... "Sorry dad...", I whispered, closing my eyes slowly. I heard a pair of heavy bots approaching, but I wasn't able to open my eyes.

"...ou okay, kid..."

When I woke up I looked around confused. The bed I was lying in was wooden, as well as the other furniture, and much more comfortable than my own. Somehow my thirst was tamed, my throat not burning, and I wondered who had helped me. A warm body next to me answered my question. It was very well build and seemed to belong to a tanned, muscular man. "You up, kiddo?" Two dark brown eyes stared into mine. The man stood up and stretched, his muscles moving in his back. "I hope you're feeling better. I had to force you to drink." He turned around and smiled. "What's up? Cat got ya tongue?" I had to grin. We looked at each other until he walked to the closet and pulled some clothes out of it. "You should take a bath. I'll put some towels out for you. After that we can talk."

After bathing and eating some bread with eggs we awkwardly sat in front of each other, trying not to break eye-contact. "So... You're coming from outside the walls." I nodded in approval. "Why are you here?" I sighed. Could I tell him? I didn't know this man. What if he would throw me out as well? "Illegal, huh? 's okay. I won't tell. But you'll need a place to stay." I looked at him in surprise. What man would hide an outsider and risk his reputation, on top of that? "You do know that I'm a rebel, don't you? Why would you help me?" "You must have your reasons. Ya eyes are telling me you don't have any bad intentions. But don't think my help is granted. Ya'll have to work on my farm, spurt."

"Oi, Keto! Where are you?" I smiled, patting the piglet one last time until the wooden door of the box screeched. "I have to go the market selling some stuff. Ya wanna join?" I nodded, taking his outstretched hand and pulled myself up. "We'll take the carriage, could you get the brown Jean?" "Of course, Darius." I walked to get the horse and led him to the yard, where Darius was already waiting. He fixated Jean at the small carriage and helped me sitting up. The hood of my cape was hiding my face completely from the burning sun. "We won't stay for long. Just a hour or so." The whole ride we stayed quiet. I could see, that Darius tensed up more each meter we rode. His face was empty, no emotions showing in is eyes. "Let's have gratin later." I tried to lift the mood, but he simply nodded and continued staring on the dusty road. Something was obviously wrong and it had to do with the city. But I couldn't tell what, and that somehow bothered me. I decided to just ignore him and watched the buildings we passed. You could easily spot the difference to the outskirt. The streets' quality was way better, the houses were bigger and also the people were clothed better. "We arrived." I got off of the cart without looking at him and waited until he had everything set. "Ya going to be okay..?" "Sure.", I just stated. I finally looked up, inspecting my surroundings. Plenty farmers gathered here and had little stalls, some even brought animals. The sight of the small chickens and rabbits lightened my mood. "Wanna go take a look?", Darius asked and gave me some money as I nodded. I took some steps away and looked around. What first – food or animals? I decided to take a look at the booths selling warm food. A woman selling grilled corn cobs especially attracted my attention. "Ya want one, boy?" I decided to buy one, in remembrance of my old days, and started eating it. I made my ways back to our booth when a loud voice made me stop. "Look whom we've got here. Darius the scum. What an honor to finally see you back. How's your mother?" I could see how pale Darius turned. I tried walking towards him, but the people wouldn't let me through. "Oh, I forgot. Your father killed her. Too bad he failed to kill you as well. He should have checked before he decided to kill himself." It was shocking to actually hear Darius' story. I've always wondered why he lived alone and, additionally, how he got the huge scar. But right now I was more worried about Darius himself. He looked devastated. "Why again was it, that he killed his family? Tell me, Darius, I think I forgot." I finally managed to break through the mass and stormed at Darius' side. He glared at some blonde guy whom I assumed to be the asshole that screamed around his past. "Ah, right. He found you in the neighbour boy's bed. Is that your new toy, fag?" The crowd surrounding us whispered offensive things, until they started to scream at us. Darius simply stood behind his stand, doing nothing. His head hung low and his hands were balled to fists, tears obviously glistering in his eyes, It took me a few seconds to decide what to do. I started packing all our things on the carriage. I pulled Darius to sit down and lead the carriage away.

"I should have told you earlier. I'm sorry." On our way back home Darius hadn't talked at all. Just when we arrived and sat at the kitchen table he finally broke the silence. "I don't care. It's your past. And you should decide, when you're ready to tell." "I'm not speaking about that! I'm gay! We shared a bed. You have to hate me!" "But I don't!" I glared at him. "Do you know why I'm here? My family hated me. Me not wanting to kill was just an excuse to finally banish me. They knew I was interested in my uncle." I could hear Darius shocked gasp. "I don't hate you, Darius. Not the slightest bit. You understand or do I have to spell it?" A smile spread on his face and I couldn't stop myself from smiling as well.
