My First Actual Love

Problems at the Football Game

The first home football game was coming up this Friday and I want to go. My mom says it's okay as long as I find a friend to stay the night with. Well my friend Brenna only lives half a mile away from me and she said her dad is okay with me staying the night. Mathew and Jordan are in the band and our concert band plays at the football and basketball games. Brenna and I got to her house after school and hung out until it was time to go to the game. We got to the game and the band was setting up so I decided to take some of the music stands and help them set up. Jordan comes up and asks what I'm doing and I tell him that I wanted to help and he just rolled his eyes and walked away. I went to turn around to go sit down but I ran into something, or rather, someone. It was Brenna.
"Dude are you okay?" she asks laughing.
"Yeah I'm fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, uhh.. Have you seen Mathew?"
"No.. Why?"
"No reason.." I say as I go to the stands and sit close to the band section. Brenna comes and finds me then sits next to me. I start to look around but I don't see Mathew at all. Soon my other friends start showing up and sitting next to Brenna and myself. I decided to sit next to my friend Karen in the band section as she plays the clarinet, the same instrument as Mathew. The players of the football team are getting introduced and Mathew hurriedly comes and sits in between Karen and I.
"Where were you?" I ask him.
"I was taking a nap before the game and woke up late..."
"Oh. You're such a dork haha."
"Shut up," he laughs. We sit there for a bit, while the football players are almost done getting introduced, and when they get done the band stands up and plays the National Anthem before the game. The game starts and I stop paying attention to it, starting to pay attention to Mathew. The game is halfway over and our team is losing. The band starts playing to cheer them on but it doesn't help any. They sit back down and Brenna comes to sit on the seat above Mathew and I. She sees that we've been flirting and tells Mathew to sit with her. I get nervous because I know she's going to say something. All I hear is whispering and Brenna moves back to where she was before. She tells me to come sit with her and I look at Mathew then go sit with her.
"I asked him why he won't ask you out," she tells me.
"Well what did he say?" I ask.
"He said it was because he's on and off with his ex and he might have gotten her pregnant."
"Oh..." I ponder what I should do next. Should I still let him ask me out? Or should I turn and run now? I sit back next to him and give a sad smile.
"She told you..." he looks to the football field and just sits there staring for a while.
"Yeah, but I'm okay. We aren't together nor were we together when whatever happened," I give a slight smile. He looks at me sadly.
"Would you still like to go out with me?"
"I wouldn't mind, but if she is then I don't want to interfere with any of that..."
"I'm not with her anymore she hates me and so does her family."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," I grab his hand and hold it for a while. I smile at him and he smiles back.
"Will you be my girlfriend?" He asks me slightly awkwardly.
"Yeah, I'd like that," I tell him with a smile. We sit there holding hands for a while when one of his friends tells him to kiss me.
"I don't know about that," I say looking at the field. He smiles and asks why not. And I told him that I've never been kissed before.
"Really?"
"Really."
"Oh..."
"Yeah."
"Are you nervous?"
"No, I'm just afraid you're going to laugh because I'm gonna be bad at kissing."
"You don't know that," he says as he pulls my chin up and kisses me. I get really nervous and pull away, the kiss didn't even last a full two seconds.
"I'm sorry.." I tell him.
"It's okay just hold the kiss," he kisses me again, only this time I didn't pull away. He pulls away and I blush because all of our friends were staring. I hide my face in my arms and sit there for a while. Mathew wraps his arm around me and I put my face into his neck. This. This is where I wanted to be. In his arms hiding my face in his neck. I was warm and felt safe. I don't know what it is, but I fell asleep almost immediately. I don't get much sleep so this was odd for me. He wakes me up because the game was over and it was time for the band to clean up. I helped them clean up and I was really tired. Jordan came up to me to see if I was okay. I told him I was fine. He walked away to go home and I went to go find Mathew. He came up from behind me and hugged me, I turned around and smiled. We hugged and kissed briefly and then he asked me for my number and I gave it to him. He started walking home because he doesn't live very far away from the school I told him that I'd talk to him later and he said okay with a smile. I went to Brenna's house and she didn't stop with the questions. I gave her all she wanted to know and we stayed up watching Dr. Who. We both fell asleep and waited for the morning.
