It was a cold winter evening. I looked at my phone and gazed that the text I received from my girlfriend Gracie and it read, "Almost there, I got the money and my brother said he could meet us outside town to pick us up."
I waited in the woods breathing slowly and I could see my breath in the cold air. I was running away with Gracie to Louisiana to start my own life. No more school, no more stress, no more drama, only me and my amazing girlfriend or should I say, future wife.
My name is Bryce Ambrose and I am one of those kids that is abused at home but I'm also the reason the house isn't flipped upside down.
I walked in and my dad was in the living room with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. He wore a Hanes white tank top shirt and sat in his boxers. I saw a piece of paper in front of him that read in big bold letters, "EVICTION NOTICE" it didn't look like he could care any less about it but once he saw me he stood up and slowly walked my way with his cigarette still in his hand.
"You see that? That's your damn fault." He said staring me dead in the eyes.
I responded with "It's actually your fault you lazy drunk! Ever since mom died and you got laid off you sit around here everyday in a pool of your own discu.." And a fist connected to my jaw instantly.
I went to my room grabbed a handful of clothes and my $2,500 in cash, I loaded it into a backpack and left and called Gracie to tell whether what had happened.
She couldn't believe it and I told her I was running away. She reminded me I had no place to go or any connections.
To my surprise she told me she wanted to come with me and her brother could give us a ride. She said "I'll meet you in the woods in 15 mins" and she hung up.
