"We're going to this party and you're gonna like it!" Victoria, my best friend said to me. "Plus you need to get out there."
"I don't need to get out there. I'm giving up on love." I responded. She's been on my case forever about not dating a guy in a year.
"No! Kate! Don't say that!"
"It's true."
"You're gonna make me cry..." She faked a sniff as she carefully drove. I punched her arm.
"Stop that!" I giggled.
"But for real, girl. You'll like this party!"
"I'll try." I mumbled. We pulled up to a white dirty house. I could hear the music from the yard.
"Alright let's go." Vic said with excitement. I haven't been to a party in a long time so I was nervous. "Cmon!!" I glanced at her realizing I was staring off in space.
"O-ok.." I unbuckled and got out of the car, Vic locking it the second I closed the door."Wooo-hoooo!!" Vic yelled as we walked through the doors. A couple people copied her.
"We're just gonna- okay then." I said to myself, thinking it was a little rude to barge in.
"VICTORIA?!"
Oh no... I thought.
"CALI?!?!" The two preppy girls screamed and hugged while I stood awkwardly watching people dance.
"Thanks for coming!! Ohmygod!"
"No sweat! Hey, this is my friend Katie!" She introduced me, I waved.
"Ohhhh!!! Her? Kate? Oh- sweetie, I need to introduce you to someone!" She winked and grabbed my wrist. Victoria stopped her and whispered into her ear. But Cali ignored and said out loud: "oh no it's fine! He's single!" I was laughed forward as she pulled me into the kitchen. I noticed a guy there mesmerized by the drink in his hand.
"Heyyy, Bryce!!" We hurried in front of the tall stranger. I looked at Cali with such confusion. "I want you to meet Kate!" She let go of my wrist and shoved me into him, almost touching his chest. She left without a goodbye.
"She's hyper, I'm sorry." He apologized.
"No need." I laughed.
"What was your name again? I didn't catch it."
"Katie, but I like to be called Kate." I smiled.
"Oh," he held out his hand. "I'm Bryce." His blonde hair reached his eyebrows but the shaved sides of his hair were a a little grown out. He was fairly skinny but larger arms that fit a thin grey sweater.
"Hi," I smiled wildly. Maybe this party isn't gonna be terrible.
"Hey." We both looked at the tall mysteriously dark guy walking over into the kitchen.
"Hi Logan." Bryce greeted.
"Who's this?" He asked looking me up and down. His dark eyes starring down at me. They weren't perhaps scary, just interesting.
"I'm, Kate." I responded.
"Fantastic to meet you." He grabbed my hand and kissed it. I tried to hide my ugly laugh. I looked into his eyes for a bit, flattered, but I noticed Bryce was glaring at him.
"What?" Logan asked like nothing was wrong. Bryce looked at me smiling.
"So you wanna dance, love?" He asked me.
"Why not?" I grabbed his hand and followed him out into the large living room which acted as the dance floor for now. I could feel Logan following as well. It made me uncomfortable at first, my dance moves were stale. But Bryce and Logan laughed with me. Once we were tired we decided to go for a drink in the kitchen. Their height also made my neck hurt from looking up so I was seated on a corner counter. It made a small difference.
"Haha! You guys are so much fun!" I commented. "I haven't had this much fun in forever."
"Well, thank you madam!" Logan smiled like an angel.
"Can I get your number?" Bryce added taking out his phone. I told him my number and watched him type it in. "Nice," he smiled up at me.
"So how do you guys know each other?" I asked.
"Oh, ehm..." Logan said looking at Bryce.
"He's my...um."
"Look-y here!" Victoria and Cali just walked in with their drunken selves.
"Aw, Vic." I said in worry. "You said you weren't gonna get drunk..."
"Hold on!" Vic interrupted. "Are you guys back together? No way! Haha!"
Bryce and Logan both looked at me nervously.
"Oh, um," suddenly I felt awkward. Really awkward. Course, not because I just became friends with homosexuals, but because I thought they liked me or something-- I don't know. I just want to get out all the sudden. "I have to go."
"I-um, we're sorry..." Bryce worried.
"No, no, it's fine. I just have to get this loser home." I laughed. "Um yeah." Then I awkwardly smiled. "Bye." I grabbed Vic's arm and towed her to the car where I grabbed her keys.
"Enough partying! Let's go home..."
"Do you love them??" Victoria asked. Clearly the alcohol was speaking. God, that was so awkward and I feel so terrible. They could think I'm judging them for being gay. Crap.------------
