The first day of school. It was the first day officially, but we had summer classes.Ridiculous as it sounds,we did go to school during summer vacations because we were in "12th standard".I followed instructions, as teachers directed me towards my new classroom,it was in another wing of the school where the "seniors" have their classrooms. So it is official now.
I am a senior.
The hallways and the whole construction of the institution itself perplexed me. I could barely make it to the washroom without losing my way. Maybe I am exaggerating but yes,I lose my way.
By the time I reached my new 'classroom',I realized I was way too late to be in school, from the grimace in my class teacher's face and the taunting looks from my classmates and the giggling and snickering (which has never stopped) I understood I made a big mistake sleeping late the previous night or rather, the very morning. The teacher after lecturing about time management and reminding it was the first day of school ( it was Monday) nodded towards the classroom. I took that as the cue for me to escape and disappear among my friends.
I wearily set my bag of books on the floor and sat on the bench, not being able to breath I lay my head on the desk. I climbed flickin' two flights of stairs after riding my bicycle to school."Better?",I turned my head to face Shruthi, smiling at me and lending her hand for comfort noticing that I'm out of breath.
I still put my head between my hands and was trying not to doze off."Better?",she poked my arm.
Oh no.
"Talk.",she said.
I could feel her finger wavering near my hips. I let out a small grunt before she poked it,and a high pitched low volumed squeal, that hopefully did not fall into the ears of the teacher, escaped my lips.
I turned very, very angrily to face a triumphant idiot wearing a smug smile.
"Hear this out,I had a dream yesterday, guess what I saw?",she said waggling her eyebrows up and down."Unicorns flying upside down?"
"Uh"
"Pots of gold at the end of a rainbow ride?"
"No"
"House of candy with picket fences made of chocolate?"
"Give up",she told. No she did not mean she is going to give up she asked me to give up.
I rolled my eyes and my neck and let out a dramatic sigh.
"Its him",her face lit up after the words slipped out of my mouth.
"Oh God. It was the best dream ever! and-"
"-and he kissed you."I added before she finished.
She nodded her head vigorously, before starting her rant. I rolled my eyes and buried my head in the comfort of my hands again.
"Kirti",she poked, stopping somewhere between her rant.
"Listening"
After confirming her,I rested again.
Fifteen minutes and five "Kirtis" and "listening"s after she ended her rant, only because the teacher wanted to take lessons.°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
After the first period I seemed to get more normal,so Shruthi and I were talking about random useless things and that's when I saw around the classroom,as Shruthi just ranted about him,I searched for him.
Nowhere.
"Shruthi where is Rohan?",I asked, she just shook her head, and added,"Its sad I can't see him today",she said sighing in frustration.
"Why did he skip?",I was truly confused as he had spoken to me only the night before. He did not sound sick ,nor did he tell about any plans.
The day went away without Rohan, and Shruthi sulking she could not see him. She would only after ten more minutes since school is about to finish.
The teacher walked in and she shouted at us to settle down. Made some announcements about upcoming tests and had us dispersed.
I ran through the corridors and made it home before Shruthi, which is usual nonsense I do just to shout 'I won' after she comes home. I opened the front door of my apartment. I bustled in and lo! In my couch was Rohan eating the chips I mentally owned and sipping coke.
"Rohan, you dumbass",I snatched away the packet of chips from him.
It was mine.
"How was the one week break?",he asked. I choked on his words,it was heartbreaking,I wanted to tell, but I can't,and I don't know why.
I shrugged,"Two idiots ditched me and went to two different places and I was left all alone in my home with no one to share the extra amount of food with",I looked at Rahul,he whined saying,"Aw,see who missed me!!",he proceeded to pinch my cheek,I swatted his arm away and glared at him.
I did hate it when they decided to leave me alone in the one week break our school had graciously provided.
"I can't miss my grandma's cooking can I?",he asked,"Sorry though",he said.
Rohan,me and Shruthi were friends from the time I can remember.
"You know right?",he asked out of the blue.
"Yes I know",I said sympathetically ,"I know you have no brain cells, maybe I'll ask Shruthi to donate".I did not wipe the smile off until he started to shoot me with throw pillows.
"Us",he said.
"Yes I know Rohan!!!!",I said throwing my hands up in the air,"She keeps talking about you,you keep talking about her",I grunted,"why can't I have a true love?",I whined. I was lying.
He was grinning,I was happy to see that they are falling for each other, the perfect cliche childhood love story, but sometimes its pretty damn irritating.
"I'm taking my keys back, don't hijack my food anymore, and how do you know if my parents are home?,huh?,you are out of your mind",I said pointing an accusing finger at him.
He laughed, then put his keys into his backpack. Typical Rohan. We ran about fighting and chasing and hung out for some more time before he went to his home.
