Recap: Turning my head away from him, I looked at my mother. I whispered to him, "How do you know her?" I hadn't seen him around, and it was odd for a man this gorgeous to not be the talk of the town. He looked about my mothers age, maybe a little older. Maybe a distant relative?
"I'm her husband. I'm your father." He had a deep voice, masculine. Powerful. And then it hit me, like a freight train.
I looked at him incredulously, "Daddy?"

He stared back at me with his pure black eyes, barely showing a whisper of a nod. He didn't say anything more, and I was dumbfounded.
He's been gone since I was three; Fourteen years ago! I couldn't take my eyes off of him, memorizing every part of his being. 'You're my father....’ I thought. I couldn't believe it.
"You left."
That was all I could make out, my eyes welling up with tears once again. He'd left me, now mom was leaving me. Why was he here? To rub the salt into my wounds?
"I did." He didn't deny it, just looked at me as if I was the most beautiful thing he's ever seen, and he looked at my mother like someone whose been married and in love for fifty years...
I couldn't take it anymore, I had to ask. "Why?"
After I said that one word, my entire world crashed down all over again. I'd managed to stop being bothered by his abandonment a few years ago, and now he shows up at my weakest and breaks me all over again. How dare him...
"I love your mother, and I couldn't hurt her by explaining what you were. What you will eventually become."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?!" He didn't say any more, just moved closer to mom.
"Get away from her! You -You, horrible, human being. How dare you come here and try and see her after fourteen years of leaving her all alone." I spoke with venom. I was so angry, furious. I'd never felt this kind of pure disgust for another person before. He left us, he had no right and the only answer he gives me is some cryptic pile of shit? Who does he think he is?
I could have sworn there was a soft twinkling in his eyes when I said "human being," but I think I might have imagined it. He kept moving closer to her.
"Did you not hear me? Are you deaf now? I said, get away from my mother!" I stepped in-between him and her, and for a moment my father's hand brushed against mine.
It was if I had died.
My entire body felt numb, hollow. My body dropped to the floor and it was as if I couldn't control anything around me, my father looked at me with sorrow filled eyes and knelt down next to me, whispering in my ear.
"I'm so sorry, Silvaria. My beautiful daughter, the feeling shall dissipate in a few minutes, but for now... I must finish my duties. Please, forgive me for this. I beg of you." He brushed a lock of my hair out of my eyes and smiled grimly.
He went over to her, placed a hand on over her chest, and then this beautiful, glowing lavender light came out of her. It curled around his hand as if it was a being, nestling itself around his palm. It had a chirping sound that it was making, almost as if it was cooing.
And then the miraculous happened. It started singing. A lovely melody... but that melody was the same one my mother had sung to me all my life. I could never forget it.
The song was hers, and the light had my mother’s voice.
He looked at me then, almost cuddling the light, and whispered, "Yes, Silvaria. This is her soul. I'm so sorry. Her time has come and it's my duty to allow her to move forward." When he looked back at the light he seemed so at peace, as if all was well and he hadn't just sucked out my mother’s soul. He was gently stroking the light as it continued that melody that was so much my mother's it made me feel ill.
I tried to speak, but I couldn't. My father smiled sadly at me then, and then whispered once more; faint enough to where I would have missed it had I not known her song by heart. "I will return soon, my daughter. I love you."
Then, he disappeared along with the light; the light that I knew deep in my heart was the same warmth that my mother had brought to me my entire life.
She was gone.
A moment later all of the noises of the machines turned back on, and I could move. I got up, and grabbed my mother’s hand, but I could tell already she wasn't here. The machine wasn't beeping anymore, just a dull consistent drone that told me I didn't imagine what had just happened.
Dahvie ran in then, his eyes red and swollen as he looked from me, to my mother, back at me again. His throat was making this choking sound, and he was looked at me panicked. I could read exactly what he was thinking, and somehow I found my voice enough to say, "She's gone. She's really gone."
He hugged me then, in one of his big bear best friend hugs that he did so well, wrapping me up in him so much that it was as if I could fall into him and no one would ever find me. He was my solid rock, giving me the strength I needed in order to give him some back. To help him get through this too.
We called the doctors and they came in, confirming what we already knew. My mother had passed.
I knew the truth though, her soul was stolen. Like a thief, my father had come and taken it. How he did it, I didn't know, why, I didn't know that either, but I was damn well going to find out.
He took my mother away from me, and if he thought he was going to get out of this unscathed he had another thing coming.
I could feel my anger and sorrow boiling just below the surface, but I held it in for Dahvie while the doctors asked us questions and helped us grieve. I wasn't sure how to start looking for my father, since I knew he didn't live around here, but I had to try.
I had to make him pay for this.
