Kinsley

"Brayden have you seen the tassel to my cap? "

"Nah , check my dresser." He didn't even look at me because he was to busy focusing on his phone.

I looked on his dresser and still didn't see it. I needed to hurry up and find it because graduation started in 2 hours.

"Ugh, you're no help" I threw a small pillow from the end of the bed at his face.

"Stop that shit Kinsley, before I have you crying" he always gets mad so fast and its funny as hell.

"Well maybe if you were a good friend I wouldn't have hit with a pillow" I sat down on the end of his bad poking out my bottom lip.

"Fine. Damn, you so spoiled. "

"Thanks Bray Bray." I decided to relax on his bed and watch him while he searched for it.

I know I should've been prepared already but last night was really fun. Brayden's mom took us to dinner at Olive Garden and then we went skating. I can't believe we were going to be high school graduates in a few hours. Time flew by so fast because I remember when we were just in the 1st grade sharing juice boxes. Brayden's been my main one for a long time. His mom always talks about how she's surprised we weren't together yet.

"Ite, here girl. We gotta get outta here and be ready for line up. My moms dropping us off. " he handed me my tassel and started getting things together.

"Look at you trying to be in charge" I smiled and got up from his bed .

"I am in charge lil girl"

"Whatever Bray " I waved him off and excited his room.

"Wow, look at you! " As soon as I stepped out Brayden's mom was standing in front of me.

"Thanks Momma Lani"

"No problem child. Brayden where is your cap and gown?" she looked past me at a half ready Brayden.

"I'll put it on when we get there. I don't wanna wrinkle it" he smiled big and walked around us.

We both looked at each other and laughed. He was such a pretty boy. But Momma Lani was always a good role model for me. She is best friends with my mom and they moved here in Memphis to houses near by each other. That's how Bray and I met.
We got in her car and left for the graduation. I would be meeting my mom there. I was so proud of myself. The best thing about it was that I was Valedictorian of my senior class. So of course, I had to give a speech. I was more than prepared. I've been waiting on this moment every since I first came to high school.

After we got there, the ceremony started and it was time for my speech sooner than I thought.

"We will now have a special speech from our Valedictorian of the senior class...Kinsley Camrie Taylor Latson. " after that all I heard was the claps so I made my move.

I walked up onto the stage with all my peers, family, and haters watching me.

"Um..I wasn't expecting this. " I stared blankly at the crowd and couldn't help but crack a smile. The crowd laughed at my sophisticated humor and I joined in as well. After it calmed down I began again.

"I'm just kidding, I have been waiting for this moment forever. Every since I was just a freshman I knew this would be my moment. I have worked extremely hard for this title. It's been late studying to last minute essay's but it all paid off. I want to give a special thanks to my family and friends. I love you mom, momma Lani, Brayden, and even you Mrs. Moore. "

I looked back at my math teacher who was sitting pretty on stage. She was the best teacher ever. I'll never forget her. She smiled in my direction and wiped her single tear that fell.

"But to everyone, thank you for being a part of my journey. Go class of 2016! "

Everyone stood and clapped for me. I couldn't help but blush and I waved while walking off stage. After the ceremony officially finished it was complete chaos. Everyone took off their caps and some people even shouted. It was a sight to see and I was beyond happy.

I was taking pictures with my mom until I felt someone come up behind me and pick me up.

"Girl we did it! We made it! "

"Brayden I know" I turned around and gave him a huge hug.
"I think this is the perfect time. "

"For what?" I asked while he put me down. I straighted out my cap and gown.

Out of no where, Brayden got on one knee and had the biggest smile ever.

"Kinsley... Marry me? " He pulled out a Kay Jewelers ring box and revealed the prettiest ring I've ever seen. I started to feel my cheeks get wet from tears and my vision got blurry.

My mom watched in amazement. She looked more shocked than me.

"I...I. " my throat got dry and he began to hold my hands.

"Say yes, and I'll make you the happiest women alive. "

"I....I can't Brayden . I'm sorry!"
I ran to the nearest bathroom I could find and locked myself in a stall.

"Oh God, what did I do?!" I cried to myself and hit my arms against the bathroom door. It was all so sudden. I didn't even mean to say no. I wasn't planning to say yes either. Where was all of this coming from?

"Honey.. come here. " I heard the door open and my moms sympathetic voice enter. I unlocked the stall and revealed my running makeup and quivering lip to her.

"Mom...what did I do?" I laid my head against her chest and sighed heavily.

"Shhh...it's okay baby. It's a way of life, " she rubbed my hair.

I closed my eyes and ran my hand over my face.

"I'm proud of you. Just know that. " she kissed my cheek and I smiled softly. She always knew what to do.
