This is not a fact. This is an awesome trick.
So here is how to make carpets smoke (creative only):
1. Put down a monster spawner inside of a 1x1x1 hole.
2. Place any mob inside of it. It should make tiny fireballs.
3. Place any choice of carpet.
The tiny fireballs should arise from it. If it doesn't, you must've done something wrong.
