I don't really sleep much after trying to, maybe a good hour or so. That's all I can sleep, even being able to sleep that much is kind of a good thing. Only given the fact that the dead are roaming the earth all over the place and what remains of civilization fights until the end of days. I mean not many people would go on like this, but I have to, whether it's for my brother or for myself. I will keep going until my last breath, because I must protect my beautiful little sister, that is the only thing that matters.
I'm sitting up on the bed, looking down and thinking. "Didn't sleep much?" The sound of Christina's voices scatter the thoughts in my head and she startles me. "Sorry, didn't mean to startle you." She gives off a little laugh as I look up.
"No, it's quite alright." I say, beginning to laugh a little to myself. "I could use the company anyway, it's a bit too quiet."
She gives off a laugh. "Yes, I would assume so." She smiles down at me. I just sit there for a second, looking into her bright blue eyes. Stuck in the beautiful light, her long silky blonde hair resting in a ponytail.
"She's.... beautiful" I think out loud, that's when I notice her start to blush and immediately realize that I just said that out loud.
She chuckles a bit. "Why thank you."
"O..O-Of Course..." I give off a little fake laugh, because I'm a little bit embarrased by this. "So, I never asked... What's your story?"
She sits down next to me and sighs. "Well, it was an amazing day. Beautiful skies, the sun out, running through the forest." She begins. "But everything changed." She pauses and looks at me, a terrified face starts to settle in on her once happy look. "I was running through the forest up here, my dad was at the camp grounds talking to some of his friends, and then some man came up and jumped on me. He was too strong a force for me to push off, so I started to yell, my dad comes sprinting as fast as he can, slams the man to the ground, begins to beat his face in." She catches her breath, looking up once more, expression changed once again to... somber.
I stop her, before she can continue. "If it's not something you want to think about, you don't have to."
"Thank You." She says, stopping before she can get to, what I assume is, the worst part of the recent troubling days.
"Yeah." I look at her, into her eyes once more. "I know you don't know me well. But I will be here when you need." I smile.
"Of course, I mean. You did just call me beautiful." She ridicules me.
I begin to laugh. "Yeah, Yeah. I can't help that it's true, even if it's the end of the world." Just speaking what's on my mind.
"Just kidding around." She smiles, punching my arm in a playful manner.
That's when we just stop and look into each other's eyes. Looking and feeling a connection that I've only had with an odd few. I start to smile and notice as she slowly inches closer and closer to me. Tilting her head just a bit, I turn my head as well, closing my eyes, beginning to move closer as well. Until I start to hear coughing, so I quickly open my eyes and jump backwards a bit away from her. She had done the same, moving not too far back, but far enough to make it seem as though nothing was about to happen.
I look over to the source of the coughing, only to see a figure beginning to get up. The figure moves closer until I can see him in the light and recognize who it was. "Well, it's odd to find people up before myself." I hear Christina's father, Jim, say.
He walks over, both Christina and I get up. "Well that's what happens when someone can't sleep." I say, giving a little laugh. In my head I kind of give off a sigh of relief, knowing Christina and I hadn't kept going.
