The Knife of Beauty

My eyes wander in your direction

for a split second you are unaware of my gaze

until then you take notice.

Your eyes lock onto mine,

lips part,

and you begin to ask, "why?"

"Nothing," to which I reply.

But that is only a white lie

among a sea of truth.

It is not so much nothing

as it is everything.

The feelings leave me breathless,

almost speechless.

So much emotion, I shudder at even the thought.

I turn away in shame

while you ramble about conspiracies and art.

And I am left in awe

over how someone so beautiful

can cause me so much pain.
