The ground suddenly gave out underneath with no warning at all. Bringing us along for the ride, it happened so fast I couldn't even process what had happened before the journey ended with a painful crash. All I could remember was Thomas's scream as we plummeted.
Brushing off the cloak of dirt off my ratty jeans I began to take in my surroundings only there was one tiny problem. Everything was pitch black. I couldn't even see my own hand in front of my face.
Giving up on trying to figure out where we had landed I decided to get busy with making sure everyone else has survived the fall without to much damage. Thomas was spooked but otherwise unharmed, Jason sprained his foot, Ivan got away with only a few scrapes, and finally Drake who seamed to have hurt his back.
There was a strange air to the place I couldn't place. It was so dark but the darkness seamed to comfort me in a way I can describe. It soothed me telling me everything is going to be all right. There is no reason to worry. It wasn't warm more like a soft chill to the place making me shiver. The strangest part was the ground was perfectly smooth like the sand at the ocean shore. The air was old and musty making it hard for me to breath.
"Lets explore this way, and see if we can find a way out of this dumb" grumbled Drake. "Come on lighten up. Where is your sense of adventure." Jason said in a mocking matter. "Maybe I wouldn't have lost it if Lee didn't want to abandon the bus to go exploring. This is all your fault." shouted Drake. "Can you guys grow up for once in your life. This isn't the time to be turning on each other. We all need to work together to get through this mess." Ivan continued to lecture us out but I blocked him out. I decided it was best to just hold my tongue and continue walking.
Tuning back into the conversation I realized that everyone was so busy pointing the blame on other people that they didn't notice a faint light almost half a mile down the tunnel. "Guys check it out I see a light! Come on this has to be the school looking for us. Lets go!" I said as I quickened my pace down the tunnel. Pretty soon I found my self at a full out sprint to get to the light. I will admit I was so curious to figure out what this light is.
We all decided to walk to the light together cause as we got closer it was certain this wasn't any natural light. "Maybe we struck gold." mouthed Thomas. Man that kid had a fantasy about being a millionaire for so long now it baffled my mind. Each step we took closer to the light it flared a little brighter. Pretty soon we were able to tell that the light was coming from a chest. "Open it" Jason said to me.
Slowly and steadily I began to lift the lid off. The chest started to groan and complain as if it never wanted to be opened. Crouching lower I braced myself for whatever lies inside this chest. Time seamed to freeze as the lid opened. The light became so bright it was blinding. Suddenly the light changed to blood red in a split second and consumed us. Are screams creating a sickening harmony.
Then everything went black.
