Chapter 1 || Smooth Is My Middle Name

Oakland, CA.

• • •

I slam the driver's seat door close, and stare up at my new school.

Whoa, this is way better than my old school.

Five story high glass building, curved sides, damn, this building is hotter than a hundred clones of me combined.

I take a deep breath, heart pulsating in my ears, and finally find the courage to push the door open. Good luck surviving as new girl, me.

As I expected, people look up from whatever they were doing to take a look at the new girl, and some were sneaky, but some were full-on curious. Damn, it looks as if I'd entered school wearing underwear over my sweatpants, super-man style, and "Bad Hair Day" written across my forehead in large, black permanent marker pen.

A cute blonde girl approaches me, and smiles.

"Are you new here? Do you want help finding the office? Do you want to be friends?"

Jeez, that's a lot of questions for my mind to register properly.

"Yup, I'm new here. Yeah, I need help finding the office, and I guess, to the second question," I say, grinning back.

The girl smiles and ushers me through the crowded building towards the office.

She looked back at me, her green eyes shining. She had untouched, porcelain white skin, wispy blonde hair.

"I'm Rili and you are...?"

"I'm Vivian. And hey, do these girls always stare? I mean, look at them! It looks as if I've come to school wearing a huge-ass green afro and polka dot clown costume, and do they know how scary it feels to be the new girl, and get these freakish looks like I'm the real life version of Snape? Please don't tell me they always do that or-" I suddenly stop and give Rili a goofy grin, realising that I'm rambling.

Oh gosh, she already thinks I'm weird.

Rili looks at me, before bursting out laughing.

"Girl, chill! Yeah, these kids don't really like the thought of new kids, and since the last new kid our age was back in eighth grade, they'd find it pretty weird. And, if I were you, I wouldn't worry. And I swear, if bitches could fly, this school would have been an airport. Babe, if anyone says anything, I'd happily bitch slap them,"

I roll my eyes and laugh, but the boulder in my throat was still there.

"Uh, thanks. I gotta go register, see you... around?" I grin, and with the wave of a hand, Rili was gone.

I sigh and tap softly on the office window, and the office lady looks up, and smiles warmly.

"Um, I'm new here and I need to register in- Vivian Cadwell, a Junior," I explain.

She gives me a warm smile and hands me a timetable and a map of the school.

Geez, how big is this place?

Knowing me, I'd probably get lost with or without the map and lock myself in the Janitor's closet mistaking it for a classroom.

I stare at the timetable, and groan when my eyes met with the first lesson.

Home Economics.

I sigh and walk through the now empty corridor.
