A few hundred years into the future...

Castiel had survived. After all these years, Cas was the only part of the trio that was still alive.
Heaven and Hell were back in place and the angels had abandoned Cas' case since he was nowhere to be found.

He had changed his identity to Clarence and was always on the road, not attracting much attention to himself. Always on the go, living the life of a hunter, going on till his grace faded away or worse, his memories paralyzed him completely.

He still lit a candle on 2 May and got drunk as hell on 24 January. He still kept the Impala in good condition, always believing that one day he would return it to it's rightful owners, the Winchesters. It's all he has left of his family, besides the journal and Ruby's knife and Dean's leather jacket, guarding all of it with his life, trying to preserve a memory of the two unsung heroes in this world.

Of course, the world would never know what started on a fateful November 2nd centuries ago, how two boys grew up to hunt monsters and protect the world, or 'saving people, hunting things, the family business' as Dean referred to it; how they stopped the actual Apocalypse, or how those two boys carried the weight of the world on their shoulders and yet never showed it.

He still remembered clearly the day Sam and Dean died, or rather, the beasts that had become of them died; the real fire and soul of Sam and Dean had faded away years ago. Those beasts were just merely possessing their meatsuits. Castiel tried to convince himself everyday that the real Sam and Dean had died a long time ago and letting those beasts use their bodies was just disrespectful and rather disturbing, the bodies of the two heroes who literally saved the world transformed into these inhumane beings with animalistic instincts.

So, even after all those years, why did Castiel feel guilty remembering the time when he saw the light in Dean's candy apple green eyes fade away? Why did it hurt him to have Sam's blood all over his hands? Why did he have to convince himself everyday that he didn't see even a little glimpse of the real Dean Winchester when he beheaded him? Or when he snapped Sam Winchester's neck?

Or was it just him who was the villain in this entire plot, so driven by his ambition to not go crazy, that he himself had become this monster, this creature that couldn't care less about family, friends, or any emotion except anger and hatred, for that matter? Because it was him who had the Winchesters' blood on his hands, and he tried to make it up to them somehow by carrying on their legacy forward, but deep down, a part of him knew, that it was all in vain, because the monster in him could never be satisfied. He had to stay low-key, hiding away from everyone till he died, or got hunted for his deeds.

Cas knew that his song was gonna end some day, and he wanted it to end so desperately, for he could never forgive himself for what he did on November 2nd, murdering the only family he had on this Earth, the Winchesters.
