Two men stand on the edge of space. On a small glass balcony jutting out of a tiny planet. These two men will decide the future of this planet, Duversa, and the lives of six million people. Sounds a lot, but compared to the entire universe it is a fickle amount, an unimportant object that could be destroyed by a black hole in seconds. And it might be about to.
The taller of the men sighs, and turns to the short one. "There's no hope for us, is there?". The short man spends a long time thinking of his reply, staring out into the stars, then, without turning, he whispers softly: "No. Not a chance.". The tall man pauses, then turns back, nodding. "I'll give it five years. Five years until we have to evacuate." He almost says this questioningly, as if asking the other man.
The other man sniffs, and turns for the first time so that both men are facing each other. "Five years", he says decidingly, and the two men shake hands.
Two men on a balcony.
Two men on the edge of a planet.
Two men on the brink of space.
Two men on the verge of destruction.
