"What is outlined in the third amendment?" Lana asks our study group.

"The quartering act!" I shout at Lana before Elise and Austin can answer. Lana, Elise, Austin and I have been friends ever since Elise and  I asked a cop at our  'First Day Of School Assembly' if he was 'Hot Cop' as I heard a group of teachers refer to him as. I was in third grade, hell no i didn't have a filter, and besides it turns out Lana and Austin thought he was hot too.

"Hey! That's no fair," Elise exclaims realizing I had received yet another point for answering correctly, " I was on my phone texting Ursula the Sea Bitch."

"Oh god," I groan at the thought of her "what does she want?" Ursula is my adoptive mother that I will never call mom. She's more like a Wicked Stepmom in a princess movie or a parasite that you can't get rid of; feeding on of your discomfort.

Austin quickly snatches the phone out of  Elise's hand and reads it out loud, "I can't find the brat. Assume she's with you. Have her call me if she is. She needs to come home ASAP B-" He abruptly stopped reading. My heart began to race as I saw the grave look on his face and my hopes lifted. Has something awful happened to Ursula? I hope so, what good it would do me to see that awful woman in pain.

"We think that Bean's dead," Elise says.

I fall into Austin and wail. I feel Lana's slender arm around my torso and they hold me as I cry. I am so grateful for them. Bean was my Toy American Eskimo. (Look it up if you don't know what I'm talking about... Trust me it'll be worth it) When  I found her on the streets she had a broken leg and was starving but  was quickly rehabilitated. I took her through seven foster homes with me before I was Adopted. Every paycheck I get goes towards her medical bills, toys and, food. She wasn't just a dog to me. She kept me sane while I traveled from home to home. She was like me too. Strong despite her appearance. Unwanted and abused. As long as we had each other we'd be alright.

I look up and see that I have only been crying for five minutes. I wipe my eyes and warm cheeks with the back of my hand. "I should go before Ursula trys to shove her Bean's body down the garbage disposal," I say making an attempt at comedy.

   "I'll drive you," Elise offers.

   "I'll come with," Lana counters.

"We'll all go," Austin says at last.

I waved to Elise as she pulled out of the driveway and I dig in my pocket for my key. I unlock the door and see Ursula talking to a man in a gray sweatshirt. Who the hell is that? I am so not in the mood to talk. I look around hoping to find Bean.

  "She's not dead," Ursula says.
