the boy picked up his phone and called his best friend, it was 11:59pm. no surprises.

"hey," he whispered croakly in the speaker. obviously he was tired, but he never let her start a day without a poem.

"hello," a feminine voice replied back to him. the girl smiled and so did the boy, when she spoke.

"you ready?"

"mhm,"

"you came up behind me,
wrapped your arms around my neck
and covered my eyes with your hands.

'guess who?' you asked.

and how silly, i thought,
it was to think that i would not you
by the feeling of your heartbeat against my back," when he was done, he sighed. the girl could sense him smiling again.

that was him, always smiling, even if the world was falling apart - he kept smiling.

"good night and sweet dreams, my darling," he whispered and then they both went to sleep.
