I moved from a little town in South Carolina. I had to get away from my awful parents.
Unlike a lot of children, my childhood wasn't something I cherished. My father was physically abusive, and my mother was a drug addict. I never got bedtime stories read to me, or goodnight kisses. I got bruises and scars.
I had graduated, and gotten accepted to UCLA. I had a little house by the college, where I stayed. I didn't want a dorm. Sharing a little room with someone else wasn't something I would enjoy. I'm a very distant person, who likes to be alone. That's the way I like it.
I work in a restaurant called 'Night Eagle.' I had been working there for 2 years, since I moved. That's where I met my best friend, Bethany.
I parked my car into the parking lot of 'Night Eagle', and walked inside. The sudden cooling of Air Conditioner made me happy. Bethany walked up to me and hugged me.
"Kaylee! How are you?," Bethany asked.
"Um.. I'm fine," I answered, intruiged by her question.
"Great," She replied.
"Well, I gotta start taking people's orders," I said.
I grabbed my pen and pad and walked up to the table I had to serve.
"Hello!," I welcomed them, "Welcome to Night Eagle, may I get you something to drink?"
The orderer took his face off the menu. He had green, beautiful eyes, and white pearly teeth.
"Why hello," he replied back, "Um.. I'll have a diet coke."
"Okay! I'll be back with your order." I said, and started walking away.
He grabbed my hand.
"Oh, um.. actually.. can you sit down for a while?" He grinned.
I wasn't allowed to sit down with customers, but the guy was attractive. Give me a break.
"Okay," I said confused, "Hi. I'm Kaylee."
"What a pretty name! I'm Matt." He smiled.
"Thanks," I said.
He knew I was utterly confused, so he changed the subject.
"So, do you like steak?," He asked.
What in the world? This guy is insane. Who changes the subject from names to steak?
I didn't say that out loud, of course.
"Yes, I love steak," I replied back, giving him a nod.
"Great," His eyes sparkled, "How about I take you out to steak tomorrow?"
"I'm sorry, we just met an-" I tried to refuse but he interrupted me.
"Just as friends, nothing else," He said, softly.
"Okay, why not," I smiled, "Now, I gotta get back to work."
I got up and walked inside the kitchen. I grabbed Bethany's arm and pulled her to the corner.
"Ouch!," She winced.
"This random guy asked me on a date, and I'm really alarmed," I said.
"Aww, love at first sight!," Bethany replied.
"Bethany, this isn't funny. He wants to take me out to steak!," I cried.
"Calm down. Go on the date, let him be happy, and come back home. Nothing bad," she smiled.
"Alrighty," I sighed.
Bethany was so optomistic. She always thought of the good side of things. I needed her in my life, because I was really negative.
I finished serving Matt and a few other people, and left. It was dark now.
I got in my car, but my engine didn't budge.
"Oh great," I mummbled.
I decided to come get it the next morning. This was a safe town, nothing bad could happen.
I was walking home, and I saw a sillouette. I ignored it at first. I kept walking, and it followed me. I didn't turn around, because I didn't care.
I kept walking, and at one point, I broke.
I turned around and screamed at what my eyes saw.
