Cara quickly walked through the empty hallway. Her shoes clicked against the grey linoleum tiles as she quickly to class. She was late. Again. Her dad didn't pick her up for school so she had to walk the 20 minute trench in the freezing rain. She opened her locker and was about to get her things when she heard someone scream "Lookout!" Called a voice in the now abandoned hallways. The school rebel Hayes Grier skateboarded toward her being chased by an old janitor who barley was half the distance as Hayes was. Before Cara could respond she was lying on the floor, Hayes on top of her. "Sorry" he said standing up. He held his hand out to her to help her up. Cara refused and shook her head as she stood up and wiped her hands together. She just looked at him with disgust. "I said I was sorry!" Hayes said. "Why were you skateboarding in school anyways?" "A little joyride" he smirked obviously proud of himself. "A joyride?" Cara asked not understanding the point. "Ya. It fun." "Fun? You almost killed me." "Not I didn't. You're just uptight." "Uptight." Cara asked not following along "You just need to live a little." Hayes replied. And with that he turned around and walked away. Cara stood and stared as he walked away not really sure what had just happened.

"Cara Petersburg to the office" said a lady in the office, later in the afternoon. That lady was my mother. Ugh I thought as I slowly walked to the office. It was so embarrassing to have my mother work at the school. Everyone knew so there was no avoiding the daily embarrassment I went through as people went in and out of the glass doors that lead to the office. Finally I arrived at the door. I went in and saw Hayes sitting in a chair "Oh, what did you do?!" He said a little too eagerly. "Um... Nothing," you replied slightly embarrassed "what about you?" You said trying to take the topic off of you "I..." Hayes was cut off by your mother hurriedly walking in to the main lobby. "Sorry sweetheart!" "Mom!" You replied annoyed "Fine! Ms. Petersburg," she said sarcastically. You heard a snicker escape from Hayes. You glared at him "I'm going to be working late, so can you walk home?" "Sure," you replied. It wasn't that big of a deal since your mom only lived a couple blocks away from the school. As you left the office you heard Hayes whisper something so that only you could hear. "Live a little," he murmured. You looked at him and rolled your eyes as you walked back to class.
