My parents died when I was eight years old, it was my birthday. We were on our way home from my birthday dinner at Denny's. We were all laughing and having fun when my dad leaned over and kissed my mom. "Ewww!" I said covering my eyes. My mom laughed as she pulled away but when my dad looked up, there was a deer in front of us. He swerved to miss it but ended up driving off the bridge into the river below.

It all seemed to go in slow motion, my mom and dad turned around grabbing each other's hands and then mine, "I love you so much! Everything will be okay." The next thing I knew we were under water and I couldn't breath. My parents were kicking at the doors and windows but couldn't get them open. When I looked over at my dad, he was passed out and my mom was pointing towards me.

When I looked out the window, there was a guy telling me to cover my face. When I did, he threw a rock through my window then cut me out of my seatbelt. By the time we got to the surface my vision was going blurry. I could tell that there were three people; the guy that saved me, a lady, and a boy about my age. "Stay with her okay?" The woman said looking at the boy as she left to call 911. As for the guy, he had jumped back into the river. My vision started to get even more blurry as my breathing became harsher and my hearing was growing silent. "Are you okay? Stay with me. Mom, she's dieing!! HELP!! Mo..." is all I could hear the boy next to me say before I blacked out.

When I woke up, I was in a hospital, the doctor had just walked in. "Oh! Your awake!!! Good morning Breland, I'm Dr.Hessling! I'm sorry but I have some very bad news for you." As if on que, a social worker walked in, "You're parents pasted away three nights ago on June 10th." Tears started swelling in my eyes as she said this. "No!! That's not possible!! I just saw them yesterday!! It was my birthday on June 10th which was yesterday." I said in denial while fighting the tears. Dr.Hessling gave me a sympathetic look as she sat down next to me on the bed, "I'm sorry, but you've been in a coma for three days. Your mom and dad drowned." Before she could say anything else, the social worker stepped in, "I don't think she should be hearing this she's only eight. Can we step out in the hall." And that was it, they left me laying in that hospital bed. Alone.

The next day Carol, the social worker took me to my house to pack up. I grabbed all my clothing and my favorite stuffed bunny that my parents gave me the morning of my birthday. I went into my mom and dad's room and grabbed my mom's jewelry and her favorite perfume then grabbed my dad's favorite shirt, pocket watch that had our family picture and the cologne he used everyday.

I walked back to the living room with tears in my eyes as this was the last time I'd be in this house. Carol wrapped me in a hug as we walked to the car. Driving away, I had tears streaming down my face as I watched my life fade behind me. I was alone in the world. I never got attached to anyone after that with the fear they'd leave me as well. It was me against the world.

I've been in foster homes ever since. I was never in one for too long. I had a new home every month, or I was running away. By the time I was 12, I had lived in 48 different homes. The longest home I've lived in was Samantha and Eric's. I was there for a year when I decided I was getting to attached and knew my heart was going to get broken soon if I stayed. I packed a single bag making sure I had my parent's belongings, my clothes, and nibbles, my bunny, then left at three in the morning.

Lee Brown kidnapped me that night or should I say morning. He was 25 at the time with me only being 13. Everyday I'd ask if I could go home and he'd tell me "no", or I'd ask why me but all he'd say is "I've always wanted a daughter". I tried running away but he'd always catch me then beat me later so I've lived with Lee ever since.

By the way, my name is Breland Emery. I have long Brown hair that cuts off right above my waist, hazel eyes, I'm now 16, skinney, and 5'8. Lee is 6'3, has short Brown hair, crazy Brown eyes, and if I squint my eyes he looks kind of like Johnny Depp.

Lee home schools me and does not like me to leave our apartment with out him and to make sure I don't,he has our next door neighbor watch out his window. I know, very creepy. I've never met him, but I know he has black hair and blue eyes. Our apartment building is practically condemned with broken windows and no one living in them. When Lee is at work, I clean the house and cook dinner. I don't always get to eat dinner but I got used to it. This has been my life for three years never changing, but today it did.
