They were in Meng's condo, trying costumes for the Halloween party that Meng's barkada will throw. Of course, RJ was invited. Surprisingly and thankfully, they all loved RJ and thought an honest, straightforward man was exactly what Meng needed. And it wasn't just because they found him hot and adorable. But it certainly helped.
RJ, for his part, also liked Meng's friends and they got along splendidly after they recovered from the jarring jeje-ness that is her boyfriend. And ever since, there is now always a standing invite for RJ to any party they throw. God, how can she be so lucky?
Which brought her back to their predicament. The Halloween COSTUME party.
Meng wanted to be matchy-matchy. And of course, RJ indulged her. She wanted to go as a flight stewardess and him as a pilot. But by the sounds he was making while trying it on, it was not going as planned. And the party was just hours away.
She knocked, her voice nervous. "Babe, is everything all right?"
"Beb, saglit lang ha? Hindi pako tapos sa uniporme eh. Wag kang mag-alala, kumain ka muna dyan. Alam kong mamaya pa tayo makakakain", he said through the door.
"Alright. If you need any help, just tell me", she answered, walking away from the door. She went to the kitchen and started assembling ingredients for a sandwich for the both of them.
Meng had just put down the plate on the living room table when she heard the door open and her boyfriend's footsteps. She turned to see if the costume looked good.
She was glad the plate was already on the table or she would have dropped it at the sight of her boyfriend.
RJ had changed into the costume. But not quite. He was wearing the pants, the dress shoes and the cap. And nothing else.
"--ko nang sinukat pero hindi talaga, beb. Masikip talaga sa balikat", he was saying, holding the upper part of the costume against himself, momentarily shielding the view of his great upper body.
Meng tried. Several times. She focused on the uniform, and the obvious difference of the size its shoulder to his. But he was just too...
Whoever said that men looked good in uniforms obviously had not seen them out of it. Or at least shirtless. And her RJ shirtless, in dress pants with a pilot's cap was a sight to behold.
"Beb? Narinig mo ba ako?" he asked.
Meng was startled out of her thoughts, surprised that RJ had come nearer. Which also made his bod nearer.
He looked at her with an eyebrow raised and then grinned. "Ayan tayo eh. Beb naman. Mag-on na nga tayo, kras mo pa rin ako?"
Meng scowled. Because it was true. Too true. "Don't even start. What's the problem again?"
But RJ looked like he had a plan, his eyes glinting mischievously. "Wala. Wala namang problema sa kostyum. Sa tingin mo pa lang, beb, mukhang aprub na."
"You are NOT coming to the party shirtless, Richard Faulkerson, Jr.!" she exclaimed, the prospect of others, especially girls, seeing him like that firing her up. "Only I can see you like that. And you! Subukan mo lang magpakita ng skin sa iba, makikita mo!"
She ended her rant, scowling at RJ, who had gone quiet. But his eyes were smouldering, staring at her intently. She was a bit confused, though, when he sat down.
"Beb", he said quietly, his voice deep and his gaze electrifying. "Ang hot mo talaga. Ganda-ganda ng beb ko. Lalo na pag galit." He patted his lap. "'Lika dito."
"Why?" she asked nervously. Though she did come nearer.
"Ako ang piloto, di ba? Sundin mo na'ko. 'Lika dito."
She did, his arms going automatically around her and putting her own around them. "Ok. What now?"
"Dalawang punto. Unang-una, beb. Sayong-sayo ako. Buong katawan ko, buong pagkatao, sa iyo lang. Kuha mo? Kaya wala kang dapat ikabahala."
She nodded, suddenly shy about her strong rant. She turned to him. "And the other point?"
He grinned his naughty grin that made her nervous for a whooole different reason.
He began to bounce his knee, bouncing her with it. "Kunyari, beb, nasa er'plano tayo at me terbyulens. Kailangang kumapit ka ng mahigpit sa piloto. At ang piloto, gagawin ang lahat para iparamdam na ligtas ang kanyang playt atendant."
"Oh my God, RJ! What're you--your hands are--! Babe! The party, babe! But...shit... Baaaabe. I think I might like this kind of turbulence."
They never got to the party. And suffice it to say, there was turbulence all night. And all morning, too.
