*Isabel's POV*

My lips peeled back even farther over my fangs as a shocked gasp hissed through my clenched teeth. At first the animal seemed confused by my presence, but anger and malice took its place so fast I was scarcely sure I seen correctly.

I slithered forward in my crouch a few steps, daring my intruder to move any closer.

"Meet your death." I invited.

The blacker than night fur bristled on the large werewolf, but if there's anything I can say I own, its my pride and I refused to back down.

Its head cocked slightly as if searching for a spot weak enough on my marble body to attack. I felt my blood spike painfully as my body went into a frenzy. I couldn't take it any longer. I had to make a move.

My eyes, locked with the large wolf that was still sizing my slim, yet firm, body up.

I spat at it through my teeth. "No dogs allowed."

Enraged fury crossed the werewolf's features as his lips pulled back, revealing sharp canines as a snarl rippled through him...

*Gabriel's POV*

"No dogs allowed." Her voice was strong, yet angelic.

No, she's one of those things.

A bloodsucker.

A killer.

I revealed my sharp, white canines as a deadly snarl poured from my snout. My claws had slowly dug into the soft ground. The frenzy and excitement running through me was getting entirely way too much for me to handle. Dirt and grass flew in scattered piles as I charged for my target.

She was up and charging for me. We were about ten feet apart when she did a somersault through the air and landed gracefully behind me.

She laughed humorlessly and stared at me through hard eyes. "You'll never be able to defeat me, mutt."

A growl rumbled through my chest. "Mutt" is probably the most insulting thing you can call a wolf. And judging by the smug smirk on her face, she knew it. I could feel my wolf's anger coursing through my already boiling blood.

I need to find her weakness. She's cocky and thinks she has the upper hand, which means that she would definitely screw up somewhere. What was she not guarding?

I looked at her figure once more. She was small, which meant she was quick on her feet and more agile, but she doesn't keep her guards up. She'd rather walk around cockily than guarded, and that was a mistake on her part. Her sharp nails and teeth also gave her a great advantage. Not to mention the fact that a vampire's venom will weaken a wolf. It only kills in large doses.

We circled each other, my fur standing on end, and her eyes burning with excitement and anger.

I made my move and jumped forward, going straight for her neck. She saw what I was doing and got ready to dodge. Yes, the plan worked. As I got closer I repositioned myself and went straight for her lower body, right for her abdomen.

Before she had time to process my actions our bodies collided. I had her pinned, ready to rip her head from her shoulders, but something forced me to stop.

Her eyes.

She stared up at me through bright crystal blue eyes. I searched for any sort of life within her, something to keep me from killing her. I didn't want to kill her, but it's what we're supposed to do.

She kept her emotions hidden with her guarded body language, not even the slightest feeling slipped past her defense. She didn't struggle, didn't beg for mercy; she just laid there, underneath me, calm as could be. A sense of proudness washed over me. I admired her for not begging, not playing weak.

*Isabel's POV*

I fought with everything in me, struggling to keep my face blank so he'd not sense the painful fear that coursed through my veins as though it were a race, my useless heart thrumming in my ears. If I was to die, I'd be damned if this dog seen my fear. He'd get no satisfaction from killing me.

I stared up coldly at my attacker,  scrutinizing his wolf-like face while he gazed right back at me, searching. He'd find nothing as far as I was concerned.

Admiration flooded his mutt eyes while he studied me, momentarily shocking me, but I knew my poker face gave nothing away. All the anger vanished for a split second on the werewolves animalistic features, but that was all I needed to make my next move.

I took his distraction as my opportunity to attack. With all my might, I bucked up into him with my waist, sending him flying back a few yards. I flung myself up off of the ground, immediately taking on a defensive stance, growling under my breath, daring the dog to get back up.

His head lifted up, he stood to his full height and shook his fur out, his hair bristling. I bared my fangs and hissed at him once more.

"You will forget this whole encounter." I used as much of my courage and my mind control into tricking him into forgetting me.

A wave of sadness crashed over me as I realized I didn't want him forgetting me, but that was the only way to ensure that we'd both walk away alive. I couldn't kill him and I sure as hell wasn't going to die tonight. I waited to make sure my brainwashing was accurately affecting the canine before turning on my heels and fleeing, heading to no particular destination. I wasn't sure if I was running from the wolf or from the uneasy feeling I got from our encounter.

*Gabriel's POV*

Dizziness washed over me and I collapsed to the ground, panting. What happened? I shook my head in the hopes of possibly clearing my head and actually remembering what happened. But to no avail.

I stood up to my full height, still groggy, my head slightly throbbed, and I shook out my fur. I slowly trotted back to the trail from where I emerged and shifted and slid my clothing back on.

What in the world happened? I questioned over and over again. I remembered a vampire, but nothing more. Did I fight it? That's what wolves are supposed to do, fight them to the death.

I pondered so many possibilities but came up empty handed and decided to leave it alone for the time being.
