**Kassie’s POV**
“Kiss me like you wanna be loved, wanna be loved, wanna be loved” The sound of Ed Sheeran swiftly dances in my ears. My alarm on my iPhone went off. I flutter my eyes open as I slowly turn to my phone on the stand aside from my bed and slide the snooze button across the cold screen. My eyes squint shut because of the brightness. I see what time the clock on the main screen reads, 6:00 at night.
At first I am confused why I am waking up so late, then I remember how I was so exhausted from my interview this morning. I quickly decide to check my email for the results of the interview. I wait for the little screen to load and prop myself on my elbow. The email is there. I hesitantly open the email that awaits my fate
“Kassie, we regret to inform you that the position has been filled at this time. You may try again with our program later this spring. We would love to have you as an assistant teacher sometime in the future. Gain some more experience with children and you will have a high guarantee of making the program next time you enlist with us. Thank you and good luck with your career path, High Chairman Karen Herman.”
As I finish reading the email I don’t even bother crying. I have tried to get into this program for 2 years now. This program would be such a fantastic addition to have on my job application for when I apply to be an elementary teacher later on in life. I hear a knock on the door. It’s Evan.
Evan has and always will be my best friend for this entire life. We have been together since 8th grade. All the girls had crushes on him, not me. I have never been the ‘girly girl’ type. I guess he liked it when I didn’t try to flirt with him. So long story short, I don’t have a lot of friends. Evan and I decided last year to get a small and affordable apartment together so we could become closer friends, and I know what you are thinking, they have a ‘thing’ let me tell you, we don’t.
Evan comes around and puts an arm around me and gives me a questioning look, even though he already knows the answer. I shake my head in disappointment and bury my head in his shoulder. No tears though, I have had this happen to me enough to know the result. Almost as if I expected it.
as Evan strokes my hair with his hand he asks me “So what do you want for dinner tonight? We can go wherever your heart desires.” I lift my head from Evans shoulder at the sound of food. I was so tired I forgot to eat! I ponder for a moment then say we should go to the cheesecake factory. Evan agrees and then tells me to get ready.
I pick out my clothes in my room then head to my bathroom. Me and evan both have separate rooms and bathrooms. We also have another room, for now it’s a computer room that doubles as storage. I turn the shower handle to hot, as I wait for the shower to warm up, I get out of my sweats and try to take out the rubber band that’s in my hair.
I take my shower then gather the courage to turn off the blissfully warm water. I do so and take a step onto the cold tile. I wrap the white towel around me and pat the cloth on my body to dry off. next I blow dry my hair and let it sit while I put on light make up. I put on my outfit and sit on the sofa. A few minutes later Evan comes down and stands next to me. “You ready?” Evan asked “Ya, sorry it took so long” I said with a little scoff. He gives a little giggle and hoists me up on my feet.
I get my shoes on and head out the door. Living in the city has its perks, the Cheesecake Factory is only a few blocks away. So we decided to walk and talk all the way there. I have something to tell Evan but I think I will wait to tell him at the restaurant.
