I woke up to a blinding light.  I was dead.  I must be. I am in heaven.  I drowned in the ocean and now I am in heaven.  But then I heard a voice.  The voice called my name but I couldn't make out who it was.  People swarmed around me,  but no faces were clear.

"Adeline Sander has woken up after being in a coma for seven days," a voice said.  Seven days.  A whole week spent sleeping.  I would have been totally fine with this except I wasn't sleeping, I was in a coma.

"Adeline, you're going to be okay, " a different voice said , this voice seemed more professional and less worried.  The voice sounded soothing and I felt like going back to sleep.

"My Adeline..."  whispered another voice.  My vison slowly came back and voice was my mom.

"Mom..." I said so softly I doubt anyone heard.

"Mrs. Sanders you are going to have to leave for a few minutes,"  said one of the many doctors surrounding me in white srubs.

"Adeline, you will be okay," I was told again.

I felt a prick in my arm, and I was out like a light.

Seven days ago

Asher Logan, long-time best friend, called up the stairs, "Adeline, hurry your butt up we are already late."

Shoot.  I hurried and grabbed the first swimsuit in my drawer and rushed to put in on.  Doing so, I tore a big hole in that suit.  So much for that one, I thought to my self.  I put on another suit and ran down the stairs grabbing Asher by the wrist and ran out of the house.  We ran down the street toward the beach... well as much running as we could do in flip-flops.  I felt the hot sand squish between my toes as we got closer to the clear, blue water.

"Where is everyone?" I asked Asher.

"They probably left without us because you took so dang long,"  Asher mumbled back.

Just then I saw Rylee Fields, a girl from school, wave and I grabbed Asher and ran toward Rylee.

"See I knew they wouldn't leave without us,"  I told Asher.

"About time you got here," Zac Smith, Asher's friend, grumbled.

"Blame Adeline, she took forever getting ready,"  Asher said.

"What all do you have to do to get ready to go body surfing?" Zac asked me.

"Well, I riped my first suit." I shoot back.

Zac's hands shoot up in defense, "Alright, alright.  Lets go."

We all started running toward the water, seeing who could swim to the sandbar the fastest.

Being the slow swimmer I am, I was in last place right from the start.  Everyone was at the sandbar waiting for me, as I doggy-paddled my way slowly toward the sandbar.

"Adeline, be careful there is a rip current somewhere around there!"  Asher called out to me.

Not a rip current.  I can barely swim as it is.  "You know what I think I'll stay back.  You guys can go with out me."

"Adeline quit it and get out here!"  Asher called.

"I want to go back!" I started panicking.

"There is nothing to be afraid of."

Oh please there was plenty of things to be scared about, like drowning, or being sucked into the rip current.

"Lets go Adeline!" Asher said getting annoyed.

I worked up enough bravery to start swimming toward the sandbar.  It wasn't that bad.  I don't know why I was so scared.  Just then I completely jinxed myself.  I felt the current pulling me under and out to the ocean. "Asher!" I screamed before I was pulled under.  Flailing my arms and legs, tired to get out of the current, but it was no use.  God, please don't let me die.  But my pleas were useless, I knew I was already gone.  My lungs burned and I felt lightheaded.  Asher called out my name but I felt myself loosing consciousness.  Oh Asher don't come after me, I am a lost cause, I thought to myself for the last time.
