New hope

Donnie's PoV
I was sitting in my lab and working on the retro mutagen, when I heared the door open. I looked up just to see April standing there. "Oh..hey A-April..what are you doing here?" I asked nervously. She smiled the cutest smile I'd ever seen and answered:"Well..I was wondering if you need any help and if I could do something for you? "

I nodded and said: "That would be great! I really need a new DNA example from you." She nodded and went over to me. I took a few examples and started working again. Time passed by, but I wasn't able to figure something out that could work! I sighed in disappointment.

"Hey don't give up Donnie..I know you can do this!" I looked up at her. "You really think so?" I asked shyly. "No, I know it." she returned with a warm smile. So I started working again. She looked over my stuff. After a while she petted my shoulder and I looked at her. "What is it, April?" I asked curiously.

"Well... I was wondering if you could mix my human DNA with a part from her DNA. I mean, you said she was special so you could mix our DNA's together and then the retro mutagen would be specialized for her special mutation, right?"she asked and looked up at me.
I must have stared at her like I had seen a ghost, since she looked a bit confused and unsure. Finally I could get a grip on myself again and cheered.

"April, you're... you're a genius! That's it!" I ran to my other desk where I'd put the DNA I got from Karai. I mixed it under the retro mutagen and dropped a bit on the other example. First nothing happened, but then it started changing back.

April's PoV
I watched Donnie as he dropped the retro mutagen on the DNA. Suddenly he raised his arms in the air and started cheering:" It worked! I can't believe it!" What then happened was unusual. He turned to me, hugged me and gave me a little kiss on the cheek, which caused me to blush a bit. Then he realised what he'd just done and got really nervous, I could tell by the strange expression he had.

"I-I am sorry A-April..I didn't mean to..I ehm..!" he stuttered. I gave him a little smile. "It is okay, Donnie..I am good with it. "

Donnie's PoV
She..ist good with it? Before I could say anything else she started again: "Well... we should go and tell the others about it, right?"

"Yes..sure..!" I answered. Then we went to get the others. They were very excited and dragged me to show them. I had to calm them down.
Jesus, they can be so annoying!

"Well if you guys could now pay attention to this example of Karai's DNA..you can now see what will happen if I put some new retro mutagen on it!" I dropped a bit on it and let them look.

"WOW! It really changed!" Mikey said surprised. "Good job Donnie!" Leo said petting my shoulder. "Thank you guys, but I couldn't have done it whithout April!" I underlined.

"Thanks Donnie, but it was just a lucky guess. I mean, you did all the hard work," she said and scratched her neck. "No, don't say things like that! You've been a great help. So don't talk so bad about what you did." I stressed and gave her a warm smile.

But before April could react, my "lovely" brother Raph had to interrupt us!
"Hey you two love birds! Could you please stop flirting and do your job over here?" I sighed and filled the retro mutagen into a bottle. Then I looked at Karai. "Ready?" I asked. She nodded in agreement. I took the bottle and sprayed the new retro mutagen all over her. It got foggy and when the "fog" started to get clearer, we all looked at Karai. The "fog" was gone and we couldn't believe our eyes. In front of us stood Karai...in her normal human form. Leo was the first to react. He ran to his girlfriend and hugged her. Then the rest followed....except for me. I just smiled and kept standing aside.

April's PoV
I was about to go to the others, but then I noticed Donnie standing aside from the happening. So I decided to went over to him.

" Hey Donnie, why are you not with the others?" I wanted to know. He looked at me and sighed. "Well...I just wanted to wait until the others are done...to give her a little break, you know?" he stressed. "Oh okay..! " Then I looked over to them and could see Leo kissing Karai. They seemed so happy! I glanced at Donnie, who noticed them as well. He looked happy and broken at the same time and I felt so sorry for him.

I took a deep breath and took Donnie's hand. He instantly looked at me and I gave him a little smile. " Donnie..please don't look like this. You did a great job today and we all are very proud of you...I...am very proud of you." and with that I hugged him and he gladly returned it.
