I was having a wonderful dream.
"TRING...TRING," my alarm rang, startling me. I turned it off and suddenly remembered that I had lost my dream.
"Aargh," I groaned. This was horrible. I hated it when I couldn't recollect my dreams, especially when I knew it was a good one.
I jumped out of my bed and rushed through my morning chores. After changing to my favourite jeans and shirt, I skipped down the stairs to find my family getting ready.
" So you are early today?" my Dad asked raising an eyebrow.
"Mmmm... I guess I am," I shrugged.
" Are we having our breakfast from our usual restaurant?" my 'foodie' brother enquired.
"Yeah. As usual. From 'River-View'," my Dad replied.
'River-view' has always been one of my favourites. It's not just the food; the restaurant also provided a spectacular view of the Bharatapuzha river nearby(Yeah. In hot summers, it's just tons of sand!).
"I am ready. Let's go." Mom emerged from the bedroom.
-------------------------------------
The early morning ride did not disappoint me, as usual.
I watched the giant concrete structures of the city pave way for the misty fields of the outskirts. The chilly wind caressed my face as I gazed at the astounding beauty of miles and miles of lush green paddy. I breathed in the fresh scent of the dawn. Every cell in my body rejoiced at the fraîcheur.
The quietness. The sanctity. The experience was simply overwhelming. I watched the hills silhouetted against the horizon, sprinting across my vision, and soon glided into a peaceful sleep...
-------------------------------------
" Wake up, Alia. We have reached. "
I mumbled something and refused to open my eyes. The sleep was too good!
" Alia, come on.." he groaned as he elbowed me in my stomach.
Ouch. "What the..." My eyes flew open to see my brother grinning in triumph.
We got out of the car and climbed the stairs to the first floor of the two-storeyed building. It was 7 in the morning but the restaurant seemed less crowded and fresh. My gourmet of a brother couldn't wait to get something down his throat and he kept nudging me forward until we reached a comfotable table in a bright corner. Mom and I sat across from him and Dad.
The waiter arrived and collected our orders. Small groups of people came in and occupied tables. By the look of it, most of them were on a trip and have taken a break for a light refreshment.
"I wish there was some spell to make food appear on the table by magic. Something like 'appearo cuisinae' , maybe? " my brother thought out aloud as we waited. I rolled my eyes as my parents smiled. He was a potterhead through and through.
In an attempt to distract myself from his enthusiastic rambling, I glanced around at the all-too-familiar surroundings. The roof-to-floor glass panes were clean and the turquoise curtains drawn to let the morning rays glide through and warm the cold atmosphere. The glass tumblers on the table reflected dazzling rainbows where the sunlight hit them.
Through the glass, I could see the busy highway on one side and roof of a house on the other. There was a crow perched on one of the nearby branches of a neem tree. I watched amusedly as it manoeuvred to drink the silvery strand of water that was trickling down the edge of the roof.
' That's pretty impressive Mr. Agile,' I complimented him in my head, when he suddenly looked up at me.
'Oops. Sorry. Didn't mean to offend, ' I thought again knowing very well that my thoughts didn't make a difference.
The crow stared at me for not more than a couple of seconds and then suddenly started staring at something that was to my right.
Disappointed that he had abandoned his attempt to intimidate me, I followed his gaze to see what he was staring at with such a keen interest.
And there my eyes met another pair of eyes that was staring back at me.
Good Lord! Those Grey eyes!!
