CHAPTER 2
Love and Hope

The rest of the day was the usual, well, as well as death notes and being pushed around then yeah, usual. Welcome to my world. I just got out of my last class which I packed up slowly and walked slowly towards the door. Before I reached it a hand grabbed my shoulder and pulled me back.
"Move it faggot." The captain of the football team passes me growling the words like he can't wait to get rid of em. I shake my head but get out of his way. I'm used to this, I've never been able to stand up for myself so I endure what I deserve. I finally am able to walk out of the classroom to see Connor and Mark waiting for me. I nod my head towards em and they come towards me.
"How'd your day go?" Mark asks. The only class I have with him is homeroom which we all share. I have Connor in two of my classes, Flyer in two and Clair in three. I was wrong, we share lunch, break and homeroom. So three classes we all share together.
I shrug my shoulders. "Eh. It was ok but not the best. Same old." I look around the hallway watching the retreating backs of kids who are eager to get home for whatever reason they have. I look back towards my friends at the same time Claire decides to join us from the classroom I just came out of.
"Flyer has soccer practice so he's not coming with us to the party. Want me to drive you home Reed so you can change?" Claire looks at me and my eyes spark fear, but I don't think they noticed.
"Uh, no I'm fine. I'm not gonna go to the party, I have a lot of homework." I make up a lame excuse but they don't push it, which I'm happy about. "Well, I gotta go. I'll text you later." I give Claire a hug and wave goodbye to Connor and Mark. I turn the corner to see Ryder waiting for me. He's one of my closest friends who I've known ever since we were in diapers, and he knows everything about me. Every single thing.
He also knows me getting beat by my dad and me cutting myself, he helps me like none of my other friends can.
"Show me." I look up at Ryder in surprise. He looks at me sternly then looks at my arm. I gulp. Nothing gets past him, that's a bad thing sometimes.
"In the car." I whisper, hoping he wouldn't hear, but he did. I know because he nodded his head and grabbed my other arm without cuts and dragged me off to the parking lot. When we get into the car, he starts up the engine but doesn't move. I look at him trying to pretend I'm confused.
"Why aren't you moving?" I ask. He raises an eyebrow and holds out his hand.
"Give me your arm or I will grab it by force." I let out a whimper but give him my arm. He pulls up the sleeve and sucks in a breath. "Reed.... Why? This is worst than last time." He shakes his head disappointed but gives me my arm back.
"I had to. My parents were fighting and the cyberbullying thing just got worse. My dad went to my room last night.... he lashed me." I look down at the floor of the car waiting for him to yell or something. But all he does is sigh.
"You're coming to live with me." He says. I'm about to argue, but one look at his face, and all I can say is okay. Ryder is not the person you want to be arguing with, I'm an exception, but even then there are just sometimes when you need to shut up and just listen to him.
We pull in front of my house and I let out a shaky breath when I notice my mom's car was in the driveway. "Will you come in with me?" I ask nervously, and he nods his head. We both get out of the car before walking inside quietly. My mom's passed out on the couch so we head upstairs and hurry up to pack my stuff which isn't much. I make sure to grab my computer. We packed one bag with all my stuff in it besides my computer, pillow, and blanket.
Ryder goes outside and I leave a note for my mom. Telling her I went to stay at a friend's house for a few days. She's the only one who knows about Ryder but she doesn't know where he lives, so that's a good thing. I love my mom but I can't stand what my dad did to her, she's always high or drunk and sometimes I just want to kill the bastard I once loved and called dad.
