House of Shadows

The building around me screeched and creaked
But the soul of who I longed for was never seeked
I heard a distant moan
As the hallways echoed and groaned
With every step I took
The ground beneath me shook
Threatening to swallow me whole,
But I had already lost my soul
The lifeless bodies were still scattered around
There was only one clear sound:
The distant laughing
Teasing and barking like a demonic hound
The ropes were neatly lined on the wall
A fresh body in them all
But the one I longed for wasn't there
No, he made it upstairs
Where things were joyous and always great
But I was stuck here, my inevitable fate
